NZ vs SA: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 32 of World Cup 2023

80 hours after locking horns against each other in the Rugby World Cup final, which was won by the Springboks, South Africa and New Zealand will face each other in a different and more famous sport at the MCA stadium, Pune, on the 1st of November. New Zealand will look to bounce back from two previous losses to Australia and India, while the Proteas would like to continue their dream run before entering the Semi-Finals.

South Africa

382, 399, 311, 428, 315, 416, 338, 370. These are the scores made by the South African team in their last 8 outings while batting first in ODIs & in the majority of these games, they had the same lineup of Temba, Quinny, Rvd, Markram, Klaasen, and Miller.

After struggling in this format for two consecutive years and finding it hard to qualify for the World Cup 2023, it seems that South Africa has finally put together a team with clear intent and visible strengths.

Coming off a thrilling win against Pakistan now they only need one more win to confirm the Semifinal spot and have a game left against Afghanistan later on but they surely won’t like to leave it for the end considering what happened last year in the T20 World Cup.

New Zealand

The script for Kiwis in this World Cup has been very similar to 2019. They started the tournament in style remaining undefeated for 4 games but seem to have lost the track in last 2 games, especially with their new ball bowling. Matt Henry & Trent Boult didn’t produce the same results against Australia & India as they did against Bangladesh, Netherlands & Afghanistan.

New Zealand slipped from 1st to 3rd on the points table and still needs 2 wins out of 3 games which include South Africa, Sri Lanka & Pakistan. If they lose more than one game out of 3 they will have to be dependent upon the other team’s results as well.

Probable Playing XIs

Kane Williamson injured his thumb against Bangladesh earlier this tournament. Though he was expected to make a return in the November phase of the tournament, New Zealand still won’t like to rush him into playing XI in such an important game of the tournament.

Spinners played an important role in India’s win against Bangladesh at this venue, hence New Zealand might include Ish Sodhi instead of a fast bowler for this match.

South Africa would like to include Kagiso Rabada in place of Lungi Ngidi if he’s available and fit.

New Zealand: Will Young, Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham (c & wk), Glenn Phillips, James Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Matt Henry, Trent Boult.

South Africa: Quinton De Kock(wk), Temba Bavuma (c), Rassie Van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Gerald Coetzee, Tabraiz Shamsi.

Venue/Pitch Report

Pune has so far hosted only one game in this World Cup. In India v/s Bangladesh game where Bangladesh got a good start but lost their way after the spin duo of Jadeja & Kuldeep was introduced into the attack. India didn’t find it any hard to chase down 257 with Kohli’s 100. So the pitch is expected to be good to bat with little help for spinners for that reason South Africa will have expectations from Tabraiz Shamsi to repeat what he did against Pakistan. If New Zealand brings in Ish Sodhi, he might turn out to be their trump card.

Players To Watch Out For

Rassie Van der Dussen

Having started his ODI Career in early 2019, Rassie was by far the best ODI batsman for South Africa for 3-4 consecutive years. He started 2023 in style with a century against England in January but has lost the track since. He averages in his mid-30s this year but has played 2 great innings in this World Cup.

Majorly, he has struggled to rotate the strike in middle overs. Although spinners are expected to get some help from the venue, the pitch may remain batting-friendly for the most part.

Given all these shortcomings and question marks around his game, he will be gutted to prove a point and make an impact in this big game.

Trent Boult

Arguably the best new ball bowler of this generation across formats Boult has always had an upper hand against South Africa in this format. During the last 3 ODI World Cups South Africa was knocked out after suffering a defeat from the hands of New Zealand & Trent Boult gave the Blackcaps a good start with bowl in 2 of them.

Boult has dismissed South Africa’s opener Quinton De Kock 5 times in One Day internationals for just 68 runs. Batting has been a strength for South Africa, they lay down a platform in the first 30 overs and then explode like no one else in the last 20 to finish with a very above-par score. Trent Boult’s opening spell will have a huge impact on this match’s result.

PAK vs BAN: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 31 of World Cup 2023

Pakistan and Bangladesh are two teams who are on the verge of elimination and would like to play for their pride as they have been under par in every department from batting, and bowling to fielding. Pakistan has an outside chance and Bangladesh has been eliminated realistically.

Bangladesh started the tournament as a team that might come close to qualification as their record in Bangladesh is very good and India also might suit Them but it was not the case as before the start of the tournament Shakib the captain got into a controversy with the senior member Tamim on his fitness and on the other hand Pakistan was also struggling with injuries with the likes of Naseem shah injured it was always a incomplete bowling line-up for them.

Still, the Pakistan team will look for the miracle and if it doesn’t happen they have a lot to introspect.

Team Preview

Pakistan

Pakistan has itself to blame for the chaos in the tournament as they are virtually out of the competition. The major reason for it is the lack of planning, they have scored under par and as a bowling unit, they have been horrible in both powerplay and middle overs.
Pakistan are lacking spin bowling and their batting has been very timid at the top especially Babar Azam the captain has been average in this WC with his SR vs spin dropping about to mid-60s. They will look to improve this if they have to do well in the remaining half.

Bangladesh

Bangladesh is a side that was a potential top 4 for some of the experts and they have underperformed by far the most in this tournament even the associate Dutch have done better. Shakib has underperformed so far in this WC and Mahmudullah has been outstanding as the two pillars of the team but many people don’t know that he wasn’t there in the actual plans for the WC. Bangladesh have got a tremendous pace lineup and they will look to play for their pride. Likes of Miraz and Das will look to make a difference as it is important for them to retain their places especially Liton who has got a lot of talent but is heavily inconsistent.

Probable Playing XI

Pakistan: Abdullah Shafique, Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam (c), Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Saud Shakeel, Shadab Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Haris Rauf

Bangladesh: Tanzid Hasan, Litton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan (c), Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mahmudullah, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mahedi Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam

Pitch Report

Eden Gardens has produced a balanced pitch. The batters have scored good runs thanks to the ground’s short dimensions. In the same fashion fast bowlers can come into play a good role here as the new ball tends to have some movement. Similarly, spinners also love playing at Eden Gardens as the ball often finds a lot of turn and grip off the pitch when the game progresses. Under lights, the ball will swing and seam a lot.

  • Total matches played – 36
  • Matches won batting first by team – 21
  • Matches won bowling first by team 14
  • Average 1st Inns scores by team – 241
  • Average 2nd Inns scores by team – 201

Players To Watch Out For

Babar Azam: The no 1 batter in the world will look to score some more runs in the tournament with a better rate as we know that he has already got 3 50s in the tournament but he will look to play a big knock Tomorrow. Babar Azam in the Pakistani lineup is the key attraction for any Person.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz: Miraz can be deadly here with the ball as we saw how the Dutch spinners turned the match on his head bowling here at the Eden. There is some turn to offer if you bowl fuller and at a lesser speed. Mehidy with his all-round ability will try to make a difference as he has a lot of batting potential.

Shaheen Shah Afridi: Afridi has been one of the few positives for Pakistan in this WC even though he has failed to do his primary job of getting wickets at the top but still, he has done some wonderful damage control in the middle. He will look to target Liton Das’s front pad as he looks to play on the back foot more. Afridi with the new ball is a sight to watch. It will be exciting to see him in Eden.

AFG vs SL: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 30 of World Cup 2023

After defeating the two experts’ favourite teams, Afghanistan will come into the game with pride and a desire to achieve more. Sri Lanka also has defeated the world champions which will give some strong confidence. The winner of the game will go into the 7th game week with a hope to qualify, meanwhile, the path for the losing team will become blurry.

Afghanistan is clicking in the fields now. The batters won them the game against Pakistan and the bowlers won the one against England. They seem to be a perfect unit and can upset more teams in the tournament.

Sri Lanka ruthlessly destroyed the defending champions with their pace attack, inclusion of Angelo Mathews seems a boon to them. Top order continues to impress with Pathum Nissanka and Sadeera Samarawickrama easing the chase after a mini collapse.

Team Preview

Afghanistan

Afghanistan looked promising with both bat and ball in their previous outing. They have a problem of plenty in the spin attack and a scarcity in the pace attack. Naveen-ul-Haq has been good in the death overs for them but needs support from the other end. Omarzai doesn’t seem to be a great death bowler and leaks run.

Noor Ahmed on his World Cup debut was sensational bagging 3 wickets. Nabi, Mujeeb, and Rashid are doing their jobs well enough. The approach of Rahmat Shah and captain Shahidi was modern-day cricket type, which they need to carry on if they want to humble more big boys in the tournament.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka are clicking at the right time; their bowling and batting are looking promising. Lahiru Kumara was the hero of their win against England bagging 3 wickets. Madushanka has been phenomenal with the new ball and now getting assistance from Kusan Rajitha.

Pathum Nissanka has scored consecutive four-fifties after his first outing going for in the World Cup. Sadeera Samarawickrama has been their MVP in the tournament till now.

Spin bowling remains the concern for Sri Lanka, Maheesh Theekshana has been off-colour in this World Cup and has only 3 scalps to his name, DDS too haven’t stepped up with the bat or ball either.

Probable Playing XI

Afghanistan: Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi(c), Ikram Alikhil(wk), Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Naveen-ul-Haq, Noor Ahmed, Fazalhaq Farooqi.

To strengthen the pace attack Fazalhaq Farooqi could come in XI in place of Azmatullah Omarzai.

Sri Lanka: Kusal Perera, Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis(c) (wk), Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Angelo Mathews, Dushan Hemantha, Maheesh Theekshana, Lahiru Kumara, Kasun Rajitha, Dilshan Madushanka.

With DDS’s poor run with bat and ball and Sri Lanka spin bowling worries, he could make way for Dushan Hemantha or Dunith Wellalage.

Pitch Report:

Pune’s Pitch is always known for its unexpected nature, but it’s been flat for the past few years. The pitch as usual will be black soil, a bit flat with an average score of around 300-310. Square boundaries are shorter as compared to the straight and front squares. The only match that happened here truly showcased the healthy batting nature of the pitch, with no help for the bowlers.

Players To Watch Out For

Sadeera Samarawickrama

When Sadeera Samarawickrama first came to India in 2017, he was considered to be a wicketkeeper, not a batter and got out for cheap scores, but Sadeera in his redemption arc has come back in India and has made a statement in the world cricket. Being the top scorer of Sri Lanka, Sadeera has scored 295 runs including one century and 2 half centuries. He has been the best player of spin in the middle overs for Sri Lanka.

Kasun Rajitha

Pune ground and Kasun Rajitha has a separate love story. In 2016, Rajitha made his T20i debut on this ground and took apart the Indian top order by bagging 3 wickets in the first spell. 7 years later, he came back to the same stadium and did the same by rattling the Indian top order. He has found his rhythm in this World Cup by grabbing 7 wickets to his game in just 3 matches. With Pune’s ground being Rajitha’s area of dominance, Sri Lanka would be hoping for him to give his level best.

Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan has been Afghanistan’s go-through bowler for the past few years and with the batting skills he possesses, he can be a sole match-winner for the Afghani team. Rashid has been below average in this World Cup edition by both bat and ball, averaging 37 with the ball and taking only 6 wickets in 5 matches, With the bat he has a strike rate of 88.89 which is very poor for a finisher. Rashid Khan would love to redeem himself with both ball and bat and Afghanistan would also be hoping the same.

NED vs BAN: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 28 of World Cup 2023

Two teams which find themselves at the bottom of the points table look to salvage their campaigns as they meet on 28th October in what will be the first CWC 23 match to be held at the Eden Gardens.

The Netherlands were given a reality check against the Aussies following spirited performances in their previous 4 games, which was quite similar to what Bangladesh experienced against South Africa, except that their performances throughout the World Cup have been anything but spirited for the Bangladesh fans.

Team Overview

Netherlands

Coming into the tournament as the only associate nation, the Netherlands were a pleasant surprise for the tournament, with respect to how they managed to compete in their opening two matches against Pakistan and New Zealand(although the margin of loss won’t show that). Their performances culminated when they staged one of the biggest ODI World Cup upsets against South Africa, and fell just short against Sri Lanka. Thus, more was expected from the Dutch compared to the 309-run defeat they suffered yesterday.

Recent Form: LLWLL

First being blown away by the first ODI World Cup century, Netherlands were blown away for just 90 runs in the 2nd innings, succumbing to the 2nd largest defeat in ODIs(wrt margin of runs).

Netherlands batting has been atrocious, especially in the first 15-20 overs. On the other hand, throughout the tournament, the Dutch death bowling has outdone whatever leverage the Dutch bowlers have gained with the new ball.

Bangladesh

With a team like Afghanistan competing with the big nations, Bangladeshi fans must have expected a similar performance from the Tigers given their meteoric rise in the ODIs since 2015, their performance in the 2019 WC and how they have managed themselves in past bilaterals, but the team is yet to come anywhere near to the expectations prior to the tournament.

Except for a solid win against Afghanistan, Bangladesh have been defeated soundly and one-sidedly in their next 4 games

Recent form: LLLLW

Pacers who seemed to be the best lot in Bangladesh’s history have been subpar and Shakib’s leadership has been terrible, to say the least

14 average with the bat and 34 with the ball, rumours are he has travelled back to Bangladesh for a session with his “mentor” and there’s no 100% surety that he will be available at the Eden.

Probable Playing XI

Netherlands: Vikramjit Singh, Max O’Dowd, Colin Ackermann, Bas De Leede, Teja Nidamanuru, Scott Edwards (wk) (c), Logan Van Beek, Roelof Van Der Merwe, Aryan Dutt, Paul Van Meekeren

Despite their atrocious performance yesterday, we expect them to go unchanged on the 28th. Scott Edwards has hinted that the team will back its openers despite horrendous performances so far due to how crucial they were in the Netherlands qualification tournament.

Again Wesley Barresi, the most experienced member of the Dutch squad might finally be given a go, most probably in place of Teja, who has looked good for his short stays at the crease but is yet to make a mark.

Bangladesh: Tanzid Hasan, Liton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan (c), Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mahmudullah, Nasum Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam

As stated earlier, there is no surety on Shakib’s availability. In case he isn’t present, Towrid Hridoy is his likely replacement.

Taskin, who has been Bangladesh’s best pacer for the last 1 year was dropped after 3 games. His replacement, Hasan Mahmud has maintained an economy of 9.43 in the next 2 matches. Thus, we expect a return for Taskin.

Pitch Report

It’s the first game of the 2023 CWC which will be held at Eden Gardens, thus it’s tough to predict the exact nature in which the pitch will play out on the 28th.

It’s the beginning of the cricketing season here. Moreover, the slow spin-haven Eden is long gone and has been a track for the Pacers for the last 5 years in the IPL.

On the other hand, Eden in the 2023 IPL was anything but a track for any bowler, seeing an average 1st innings score of 195.7 in IPL 23.

So expect a match where batters get full value for their runs and pacers of both sides to improve the performances seen in the World Cup so far.

Players To Watch Out For

Mahmudullah: Mahmudullah scoring runs for Bangladesh in ODI World Cups is one of the few positive constants in Bangladesh cricket.

814 runs @58.14 across 18 ODI WC innings, 3 out of Mahmudullah’s 4 ODI centuries have come in World Cups, with the latest one coming against South Africa in the previous match.

Unfortunately, he has found himself mostly at no. 6 or 7 throughout the tournament owing to other batsmen’s preferences. He might be given a promotion given he has been by far the best batsman of the team in the tournament.

Logan Van Beek: A dream initially seen with the Kiwis, Logan Van Beek is now fulfilling it with the Netherlands side.

In the ongoing tournament, he has the 2nd best batting average and best bowling average for the Netherlands. He hasn’t had much to do with the new ball but his wickets in the middle have been crucial. Plus, he has the ability to provide the finishing impetus coming at no. 8 though he has been called in much earlier to bat than expected, throughout the tournament.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz: Except for his MOTM performance in the opening game against Afghanistan, Mehidy is yet to impress with the bat though his performance with the ball against India and South Africa in the previous two matches was admirable, given how his teammates were smacked right, left and centre.

Having played as an opener and also as a number 7 throughout 2023, it’s important Bangladesh gives him better clarity when it comes to his role in the batting order, and expects him to carry their bowling, as he has done in the previous 2 games.

AUS vs NZ: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 27 of World Cup 2023

Australia and New Zealand two teams that were Potential Top 4 before the start of the CWC had started to get into the rhythm specially australia who lost first 2 matches are on a winning spree with 3 consecutive wins on the Trott and on the other hand Newzealand has won 4 out of 5 matches in the CWC.

Australia has got their combination right but they have to get one thing sorted i.e fitting in Travis head in the team as he has been the X Factor for them before the CWC, head won australia the WTC final on his own, Has a fantastic one day record this year. His return will make Aussies more Dangerous.

Newzealand will look to exploit the Dharamshala conditions as it is a day match. We might witness a 2015 like wc encounter this time. Boult from newzealand and starc from Australia.

Team Preview

Australia

Australia will start the match as a slight favourites because of their overall wc record and legacy plus they are back in the tournament meanwhile if you dig in new zealand’s campaign you will find out that after 1st match win vs England they have won vs Bangladesh, Afganistan and Netherlands all compartively weaker teams as per rankings and past record with no disrespect.

Steven Smith is back among the runs vs Netherlands as he made a 72 vs them and David Warner is back to his Original CWC form as he has currently got the 3rd position in most run getter list with two Centuries to his name. Mitchell starc will look to perform like he does in CWCS. Playing XI will be a matter to disscuss in the Aussie campaign.

New Zealand

Newzealand the Dark horses of the tournament are overall well equipped and placed in the tournament with 8 points under their belt. They will look to win atleast 2 matches from here to seal the spot as their run rate is very good. Daryl Mitchell and Conway will be two batters NZ will rely upon along with rachin ravindra a very talented all rounder.

NZ can look to play Southee here as we might see some swing movement here at Dharamshala. Mitchell santner is in amazing form this wc with him acting as a economical bowler in the middle and because of that other bowlers are getting the reward.

Probable Playing XI

Australia: David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Steven Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Inglis (wk), Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, Pat Cummins (c), Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa

New Zealand: Devon Conway, Will Young, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham (c) (wk), Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult

Pitch Report

Dharamshala is traditionally considered a good sporting pitch as it provides seam at the top with wicket getting better and better. The team who will post a 300+ total here will fancy there chances with the 2 new balls under lights. Boundaries here are generally medium/Small.

Spinners will not get much assistance from the surface if they will bowl at normal speed of 85-90 Kmph, early 80s and late 70s speed of bowling will be ideal to get some spin if a spinner wants here.

  • Total matches played – 8
  • Matches won batting 1st -3
  • Matches won bowling 1st -5
  • Average 1st Inns scores – 237
  • Average 2nd Inns scores – 209

Players to Watch out For

Trent Boult: Trent Boult will be the player to watch out for here because of the conditions and skills of boult at the top. He is probably the best swing bowler currently in first few overs with the white kookaburra. Boult has picked 9 wickets vs australia in the CWC and will be a major threat to them.

Glenn Maxwell: Glen Maxwell is the player who can turn the game on its head like he did vs Netherlands. Aus was in a bit of uncomfort when they got 260-5 after 40 overs vs Netherlands at the flat conditions of Delhi with small boundaries. A total of 330 was a possibility. Maxwell with his unrealistic 40 ball ton takes it to 400 and makes it impossible for the Dutch. It’s just a short example of the man.

Rachin Ravindra: Rachin Is a young sensation that has been on fire in this wc with 2 50s and a swashbuckling 100 vs the defending champions. Rachin is a player you wil call that tries to get on top of the bounce and play his shots. He is a brilliant talent and is a handy left arm spinner also. He will be the key for newzealand chances in this match as well the CWC.

ENG vs SL: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 25 of World Cup 2023

If an injured player’s XI is to be made across the World Cup teams, England and Sri Lanka would have the most members. It’s the battle of the 8th and 9th-ranked teams. Both teams have struggled to find the perfect team combination till now, making changes in bulk.

Despite winning against the Dutch, Sri Lanka didn’t look dominating, they should have finished the game in the 46th over but they delayed it till the 49th over. They also failed to clear the tail of Holland; Sri Lanka’s spinners have looked the worst in this World Cup alongside Pakistan’s spinners. Maheesh Theekshana, their main weapon has taken only 2 wickets.

Jos Buttler before the World Cup said “We aren’t defending anything”, but till now it looks like they are neither chasing nor defending anything. England has been a flop among the big boys. Leaving the match against Bangladesh, England was dominated by opponents in other matches.

Team Preview

Sri Lanka

Dilshan Madushanka has been phenomenal with the new ball but was looking lonely till the match against Netherlands, but in the encounter against Netherlands, he got the assistance of Kusan Rajitha who took 3 wickets in the powerplay. Spin bowling is still an issue for the Lankan Lions.

Sadeera Samarawickrama in 2023 has been phenomenal. He plays perfect ODI innings starting slow and eventually accelerating after getting set. Pathum Nissanka has scored 3 consecutive half-centuries, but he should make them count big considering their slippery middle and lower middle order. The top 4 Lankans need to go big to challenge England on short Chinnaswamy boundaries.

England

England is also suffering injury woes; Reece Topley has been ruled out of the World Cup and Brydon Carse named his replacement. Caring about the vulnerable bowling lineup, the batting was shortened with David Willey coming at 7. England still needs to figure out their best possible unit.

Adil Rashid needs support from other spinners but Livingstone or Root isn’t that much threatening, England needs to look back to their vice-captain Moeen Ali. Jos Buttler’s form is also very concerning.

Probable Playing XI

Sri Lanka: Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis (c) (wk), Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya De Silva, Dunith Wellalage, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, Kusan Rajitha, Dilshan Madushanka.

Hemantha looked ordinary with bowl, Wellalage may replace him. Uncertainty on Maheesh Theekshana who got injured while trying a catch and bowled against Netherlands.

England: Dawid Malan, Johnny Bairstow, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler (c) (wk), Brydon Carse, David Willey, Mark Wood, Adil Rashid, Gus Atkinson.

Either of Woakes, Moeen or Brydon Carse can play considering the needs of the team.

Pitch Report

Bengaluru pitch has always been a batting paradise for ages, and it didn’t disappoint that trend in its first World Cup game. It’s going to be a graveyard for bowlers of both teams considering their shaky bowling lineups and short boundaries. Even a score between 380-400 runs isn’t safe on this ground.

The team that does exceptionally well with the bat will come out as winners.

Players To Watch Out For

Dilshan Madushanka

Came in the World Cup with the reputation of getting Virat Kohli cleaned bowled on a duck, Dilshan Madushanka has been a lotus shinning in the mud for the Lankan bowling lineup. He has handled the new ball brilliantly removing the top order of teams. Till now he has taken 11 wickets with an average of 21.18. Madushanka needs support from the other end, his efforts have been messed up by other bowlers. On his given day, Madushanka can win any match but he needs assistance from other bowlers.

Johnny Bairstow

Johnny Bairstow still hasn’t arrived at the World Cup, he has only 1 fifty out of 4 matches he played. Bengaluru pitch and short boundaries will help him attack from the start and do what Johnny Bairstow can do. He needs to play spin carefully as his spin game has gone downhill in the recent past. England are still in search of their vintage intent, which Bairstow needs to provide from the start.

Jos Buttler

Same as the case of Johnny Bairstow, Jos Buttler till now hasn’t arrived at the biggest stage. Buttler has managed to score just 87 in 4 innings, he played which is very low for a player of Buttler’s potential. The captain needs to step up for his team and lead from the front before it’s too needed for England. For a batter struggling with form, there’s no other better ground than Chinnaswamy to get his form back. Buttler would also be looking to do so.

AUS vs NED: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 24 of World Cup 2023

The gulf between the above 2 teams, who share minimal similarities concerning their cricketing history and culture, has never been as short as it will be on the 25th of October when the Netherlands will take on Australia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.

Netherlands will be proud of how they have fared with the bigger teams so far but they would want to make the most out of their remaining games as the team maintains that making the semis is their main aim for CWC 23.

On the other hand, Australia have gotten back on track after their initial halt and would like to prevent the event that will haunt their protean rivals in the near future.

Team Preview

Netherlands

Riding high on their win against South Africa, the Netherlands succumbed to 91/6 against Sri Lanka. Top-order collapses have been a constant issue with the Dutch side, especially the openers not providing good starts nor consistently anchoring the innings. However, the lower order has really been the backbone for the men in orange and the protagonist this time was Sybrand Engelbrecht, a man whose last professional game before CWC 23 was way back in 2016!

Aryan Dutt finally picked up the wickets to show for his tremendous powerplay bowling throughout the tournament. Still, a resilience from Sadeera backed by lacklustre middle-overs bowling, another prolonged woe for the Netherlands, meant the Dutch couldn’t string back-to-back upsets.

Recent From: LWLLL

The starting 15-20 overs of their batting innings is where the Netherlands have struggled and the Hazlewood-Starc duo is only going to amplify this issue.

Australia

A team that always manages to perform/outperform the fans’ expectations when it comes to the grandest stage; Australia seemed to be out of its depth, losing their opening 2 matches, including a 134-run spanking from South Africa. However, they have rallied a comeback winning their next 2 games and have set their eyes upon the men from Europe.

Recent Form: WWLLL

Openers Marsh-Warner were the stars against Pakistan, stitching a 259-run opening stand. However, the Aussie middle-order continued its dry run with the 3rd highest run-scorer(in an innings which saw all 10 wickets falling) being 21. Fielding was again substandard, the reason Australia has the lowest catch efficiency of the tournament.

Probable Playing XI

Australia: Mitchell Marsh, David Warner, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Inglis, Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood

With 2 wins on trot, a team is expected to make no changes but Travis Head might make his way into the side. The 29-year-old is yet to make a mark on CWC 23 due to a left-hand fracture he picked up in the South African series. We are yet to receive confirmation of his availability for the Netherlands bout but he is back with the team in India. The person who will most likely make way for him is Marnus, although Steve Smith’s performance has been terrible so far, averaging 23.22 across 10 games in 2023. Selector Bailey has hinted Head will come back to his opening slot. If so, Marsh will have to make the sacrifice and move to the middle order.

Netherlands: Vikram Singh, Max O’Dowd, Colin Ackermann, Bas De Leede, Teja Nidamanuru, Scott Edwards, Sybrand Engelbrecht, Logan Van Beek, Roelof Van Der Merwe, Aryan Dutt, Paul Van Meekeran

Once again, Wesley Barresi’s inclusion is the only change that can occur in the Netherlands’ XI. Max O’Dowd has been terrible so far, averaging 13.75 with a strike rate of 72.36.

Barresi has experience of playing at the top order and his positive approach might shake up the Aussies who themselves have been inconsistent with the new ball in this tournament.

Pitch Report

A pitch that was expected to hoist the highest scores of the tournament, behaved exactly like that in its first 2 games of CWC 23. However, the Afghan-England bout saw the pitch retaining its IPL characteristics, with spinners bowling 55% of the overs. One can expect similar outcomes on the 25th, with Dutch utilizing their part-time options and Zampa making hay of his regained form.

Players to Watch Out For

Aryan Dutt: A spinner who averaged 48.25 before the commencement of CWC 23, Aryan Dutt has seriously stepped up his game in this tournament. Although he did pick up 3 wickets in his last match, he had been unlucky against South Africa and Pakistan to not pick up more wickets for his brilliant opening spell.

With an economy of 4.94, his battle against the explosive Australian openers will be a treat to watch and if he can manage to replicate his performances, the Dutch bowlers may finally land the knockout punch in the middle overs, given the condition of the Australian batting line-up.

Mitchell Starc: 22-0 is one of the most talked about streaks of current cricketing gossip. It’s the amount of CWC matches Starc has taken part in, and he has managed to pick at least a wicket in each of those 22 matches. A colossal of the format, Starc averages 16.69 in ODI WCs and picked up a hat-trick against this same nation in the warm-up match. If he gets going, the match can be over very soon. Left-handed opener Vikramjit will hold the key against Mitchell.

Mitchell Marsh: Having made his ODI debut way back in 2011, Marsh has only played 83 ODIs so far, however, 2023 has been a completely different chapter for him in this format
597 runs at a strike rate of 114.15, “the Bison” registered his highest ODI score of 121 in the last match against Pakistan.

As stated earlier Aryan has kept his opponents quiet in the Powerplay and Marsh will be the key to counter-attack the off-spinner.

PAK vs AFG: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 22 of World Cup 2023

The battle between two neighbouring countries to avoid another defeat, Afghanistan vs Pakistan has always seen some sensational encounters with a lot of spat.

Afghanistan after defeating intent merchants England were high on confidence, but later was doomed by New Zealand, citing some wrong decisions and catch drops. They were clueless while chasing the target, not planning the target and they went on playing many dot balls, leading to a collapse. Afghanistan’s schoolboy errors threw them very behind against the Kiwis.

Pakistan dominated both teams which came from the qualifiers in their first two encounters, but later on got dominated by India and Australia. Like Afghanistan, Pakistan always made some schoolboy errors dropping some catches and bowling poor length to set David Warner well. They were looking good in the chase, but eventually messed it up.

Team Preview

Afghanistan

The landlocked nation somehow needs to address the issue of middle order playing with no intent, playing continuous dots and building pressure. Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi, and Mohammad Nabi all have a batting strike rate of less than 70. They need some good intent in the middle overs. Fielding standards have also been deplorable. Bowling needs support from both batting and fielding.

Pakistan

Pakistan till now has been a hit-and-miss in the tournament. If their batting does well, bowling fails and vice versa. They need to come out as complete in future fixtures if they want to book a place in the top 4. Fielding standards are abysmal, spin bowling doesn’t have the spark in it, and even with Usama Mir it looked faded, Babar Azam’s form is all the regions Pakistan need to work on.

Probable Playing XI

Afghanistan: Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Riaz Hassan, Hashmatullah Shahidi (c), Azmatullah Omarzai, Ikram Alikhil (wk), Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Noor Ahmed.

Rahmat Shah concerning form may see him on the bench with Riaz Hassan replacing him. Considering Chennai pitch conditions, Noor Ahmed could walk in 11 for any fast bowler.

Pakistan: Imam-Ul-Haq, Abdullah Shafique, Babar Azam (c), Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Shaheen Afridi, Hasan Ali, Haris Rauf.

Usama Mir had a very poor outing in all three departments and could make way for Shadab Khan’s return.

Pitch Report

This match will likely be played on the same square as of India vs Australia, so teams should look to get as many as spin bowling options as possible to get a good outing in bowling. Afghanistan would be getting water in their mouth seeing this, on the other hand, Pakistan spinners haven’t looked threatening yet so far. Batters need to bat sensibly on this pitch and punish bad balls.

Players To Watch Out For

Rahmanullah Gurbaz

Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s fierce innings of 80 runs in just 57 balls gave them the upper hand against England from the start. To this date is the top scorer for Afghanistan in this World Cup edition but has been poor in chasing in this overall career averaging just around 20, he would be looking to change this soon. He’s the backbone of the Afghani batting lineup. Considering the shaky middle order, he should bat long with the same aggressive intent.

Mohammad Rizwan

Rizwan, the top scorer of this World Cup hasn’t failed in any of the matches scoring a hundred, a fifty and 2 40s. He couldn’t get his team across the line against Australia, this time around he would be looking to change this. Considering Babar Azam’s form, Pakistan is dependent on Rizwan. Rizwan needs to be up to the mark in both of his departments for Pakistan’s success.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman

Opening the bowling for Afghanistan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman is an important member of the Afghani lineup. He was the architect of Afghanistan’s victory over England with the ball and a crucial cameo with the bat. If he takes wickets from the start, it would help the other bowlers to deliver their best. Apart from bowling, his cameos with the bat are also crucial for Afghanistan to finish strong.

ENG vs SA: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 20 of World Cup 2023

Upsets are a part of big World events be it in any sport. Cricket being the 2nd most followed sport in the world is no different. Afghanistan and Netherlands lit the 2023 World Cup on fire by turning the tables around against England & South Africa respectively. The losing teams of these upsets will be up against each other on 21st October at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Team Preview

England

The defending champions have had a shallow middle order & an average new-ball bowling so far in the tournament. Jofra Archer did join the England team camp but just to continue his rehab. He might make a surprise international comeback in this tournament but isn’t expected to play tomorrow. England may replace any of Woakes & Sam Curran with David Willey and Ben Stokes may also make a comeback if available. There are many possibilities so it will be interesting to see that with what final Eleven England will enter the field.

South Africa

South Africa has only one visible weakness in their team but that weakness has been the reason for their many recent losses in the format. It’s the death bowling. With Anrich Nortje not playing in this tournament captain Bavuma is forced to use Rabada at one end in death overs which isn’t really his strength in this format of the game.

South Africa unlike England isn’t expected to make any changes to their side because all eleven players have earned their spot through consistent performance in the last 10-12 ODIs and look settled, one bad performance shouldn’t really panic them but they’re South Africa after all so things might go the other way as well.

Probable Playing XI

England: Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler (c) (wk), Liam Livingstone, David Willey, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood, Reece Topley

South Africa: Quinton de Kock (wk), Temba Bavuma (c), Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Gerald Coetzee, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi

Pitch Report

This will be the first game at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai for this tournament. The nature of the pitch is generally batting friendly and so has been the case with other venues in this tournament, so this game is expected to be a high-scoring one, especially with two heavyweight batting lineups playing against each other.

Players To Watch Out For

Quinton De Kock

Quinny started his last Odi World Cup in style with consecutive centuries in the first 2 games. He did face a failure against the Netherlands but he loves playing at Wankhede which was his home ground in IPL for 3 seasons. He also loves playing against the English side and averages 60 against them with a Strike rate of 98 in ODIs. He scored a match-winning century against India back in 2015 in a series decider and also scored a quick 50 against England in the t20 World Cup at the same venue. So with all these sorts of records, he is expected to score big.

Reece Topley

The Last time these two teams faced each other in an ICC event in India was 7 years back at the same venue. Reece Topley opened the bowling but was punished heavily by Amla & Quinny and was taken off the attack 2 overs later.

7 years have passed, and things have changed.

Today Topley is arguably the best new ball bowler in the world. He is now leading his team’s bowling attack in the World Cup and has been their best bowler so far. During their first 2 wins, South Africa got a good start from their top 3 and that is exactly what Topley has to stop from happening. If he manages to do what Henry & Boult have done continuously for New Zealand then his team will be very well on course of winning the game and coming back into the tournament.

NED vs SL: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 19 of World Cup 2023

“No Dream is Ever Chased Alone”- Rahul Dravid.

The above quotation captures the current Netherlands cricketing side. The “Total Cricket” term has been adopted by Captain Edwards too, applauding it as the reason for the Netherlands upsetting South Africa.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka is the only team yet to register a win in the ongoing tournament.

On Saturday both of these teams face off at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow; one of them looking to preserve its inspiring run whereas the other is trying to kick-start one of its own.

Netherlands

Having played good pockets of cricket, but eventually losing the plot of the bigger picture during their opening 2 matches, the Netherlands seemed to be down and out straightaway against South Africa, when they were reeling at 50/4. However, Captain Edwards’ 78* along with useful cameos from the tail-enders meant the Netherlands put up a respectable total though one which most expected to be chased down by the inform Protea batters. Well, the Dutch bowlers had different plans and their powerplay carnage, a phase in which they have been brilliant throughout the last few years, meant the Netherlands scripted an iconic victory at the picturesque Dharamsala.

Recent Form: WLLLW

They came really close to defeating Sri Lanka earlier this year, falling short by just 21 runs and would want to make sure that experience isn’t relived this Saturday.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka came into the tournament with mixed results. They reached the Asia Cup 23 finals but were humiliated by India over there. Uncertain about what to expect from them, Sri Lankan fans must be disappointed with losses in their 3 opening matches.

Recent Form: LLLLW

Blown away by the Protea batters at Delhi, fielding was their demise in Hyderabad whereas it was an overall breakdown except for the openers and Madhushanka against Australia. Missing their regular captain Shanaka, Sri Lanka may take some solace upon the fact they have already played at the Ekana and this experience may aid them on the 21st.

Probable Playing XI

Netherlands: Vikramjit Singh, Max O’Dowd, Colin Ackermann, Bas De Leede, Sybrand Engelbrecht, Teja Nidamanuru, Scott Edwards, Roelof Van Der Merwe, Logan Van Beek, Aryan Dutt, Paul Van Meekeran

Securing what was their 3rd win at the ODI World Cup stage, the Netherlands are most likely to go with the same XI. Again Wesley Barresi might find his way into the team, especially since the arena is Ekana where spinners have found extra aid compared to the other grounds.

He has a strike rate of 109 against them since the 2019 CWC and the fact that Engelbrecht is yet to make a mark for the Netherlands might see Barresi playing yet another CWC match in India,

Sri Lanka: Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Dhanajaya De Silva, Dunith Wellalage, Chamira Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, Matheesha Pathirana, Dilshan Madhushanka

A musical chair has ensued for the role of Madhushanka’s partnering pacer. Due to Pathirana and Rajitha’s economy touching nearly 10 in the opening 2 games, Lahiru was given a go in the 3rd match but he took this economy rate to 11.75. Thus Sri Lanka might go back to Pathirana who did well in the Asia Cup.

Karunaratne is another player whose spot may be in danger after a single game. Wellalage was sent above him against Australia with Chamika coming way down at no. 8. Thus Dushan Hemantha might be given a go, with respect to how the captain and coach believe the pitch is going to behave.

Pitch Report

In a stadium where the average first innings score stood at 143.2 during IPL 23, fans weren’t sure what to expect of Ekana during the World Cup owing to its renovation. After 2 games, it is sure that Ekana is much more favourable towards the batsman compared to what we saw earlier in 2023, however, it hasn’t forgotten the spinners either. Zampa should be disappointed with how he performed given how Maxwell proved to be Australia’s best bowler against South Africa. Well, Adam made it up in the game against Sri Lanka with a Man of the Match winning 4fer. The Pacers seemed to find success at the later half of their innings with cutters.

Netherlands vs Sri Lanka will be the 3rd match within 10 days at Ekana, thus we might see a low-scoring thriller dominated by spinners of both sides.

Players to Look Out For

Scott Edwards: Netherlands’s 2nd highest run-getter in ODIs, Dutch fans were disappointed with Captain Scott’s output in the opening two games but he more than made up through his 69-ball 78*, entering the pitch when his team was 82/5. For people who have followed Netherlands cricket for the past couple of years, this wasn’t too much of a surprise. Averaging 41.25 with a strike-rate of 93.95, Scott is one of the few consistent batsmen in the entire of Netherland’s history.
He might consider promoting himself due to his phenomenal gameplay against spin. Look out for his sweep!

Kusal Mendis: Touted as the next big thing in Sri Lankan cricket, Kusal always lacked consistency, especially in the ODI format but 2023 seems to be his year. Impressing in the Asia Cup, Kusal took it to another level in the opening two games of CWC 23, scoring 198 runs from just 119 balls. It was disappointing how he couldn’t capitalize on the platform provided by the openers against Australia though it’s a golden chance for him to recover his golden run against the Netherlands this Saturday.

Dunith Wellalage: Emerging amongst the top performers of Asia Cup 2023, he has been terrible in the World Cup so far, forcing some to ponder if he was just a one-tournament wonder. But his past performances, although lacking in quantity, give us hope he will make a comeback against the Netherlands, especially if the pitch assists the spinners. Amongst his 21 wickets, he has already trapped ODI greats such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and David Warner and his matchup against Captain Edwards will be a battle to watch out for. He can also be a handy contributor down the order considering he opens the batting at the domestic circuit.
