SA vs IND: Match Preview and Dream11 Team for 1st ODI of IND Tour of SA 2023

0

Pink is the colour often associated with love, sweetness, and compassion. The colour evokes feelings of warmth and tenderness. Pink is the colour that will adorn the “BULLRING” Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg this Sunday, as the home side takes on India in the first one-day international. This match will mark the seasonal pink day of the South African summer.

Contrasting to the nature of the colour pink, the Pink ODI has never been a calm and sweet fixture. From De Villiers putting up the fastest one-day innings of all time to Chris Morris’ heroics in a one-wicket win against England. From a swarm of bees descending on the bullring in 2017 to De Kock deceiving Fakhar Zaman into getting runout at 193 and who can forget Heinrich Klaasen’s arrival on the international stage in 2018. The pink odi at the Bullring has seen it all. Tomorrow the fans will hope for something similar.

South Africa

A transition phase frequently characterised the end of a 4-year cycle of an ODI World Cup. By the time the next ODI World Cup takes place in South Africa, Miller will be 37, Rassie will be 38, Klaasen will be 35, the no. 1 ODI bowler Maharaj will be 37 & the likes of Rabada & Nortje will be in their early 30s. Now South Africa will not be looking to replace all these players as many of them are currently in their prime and showed it in the World Cup, but they’ll need some youthful faces to accompany them.

Many of such young potentially talented players have been included in the ODI squad for this series & their performance will be the desirable thing to watch out for in this series.

With the retirement of Quinton de Kock & Bavuma being rested for this series, South Africa will look for a fresh new opening pair to accompany their strong middle order. Tony de Zorzi, the left-handed 26-year-old top-order batsman who made his international debut earlier this year can be an option for South Africa at the top.

The pace attack comprising unfamiliar names like Nandre Burger, Ottniel Baartman & all-rounder Mihlali Mpongwana will have a tough job to do when they face a young and solid Indian batting lineup which proved to be too good for South Africa in T20Is. Kyle Verreyne is another player who will be keen to prove his worth in the role of wicketkeeper if given a chance.

Probable Playing XI: Aiden Markram (c), Reeza Hendricks, Tony de Zorzi, Rassie Van der Dussen, Heinrich Klaasen (wk), David Miller, Andile Phehlukwayo, Keshav Maharaj, Nandre Burger, Lizard Williams, Tabraiz Shamsi.

India

The Indian ODI team witnessed its peak in the ODI World Cup, yet they couldn’t win the title. Management and the board must be wondering what else they can do in this format to lift that silverware. The board of selectors has picked a relatively younger and inexperienced odi team for this tour led by the captain KL Rahul, who himself will want to keep his place in the team for as long as he can. Recently, he indicated changing his role to a middle-order batsman in all formats to have a better chance of getting selected for India in the future.

Sai Sudarshan, Rinku Singh & Rajat Patidar alongside medium pacer Akash Deep will be potential debutants for this series. Deepak Chahar will not be featuring because of a family medical emergency.

India did not have a single left-handed batsman on their team during the World Cup but for this series, they’ve 3 and all 3 are young players who have a chance to be a contender for the mainstream odi side by performing well. Yuzvendra Chahal is making a comeback to the odi side after 11 months.

Probable Playing XI: KL Rahul (c) (wk), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sai Sudarshan, Shreyas Iyer, Tilak Verma, Rinku Singh, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Kuldeep Yadav/Yuzvendra Chahal, Mukesh Kumar, Arshdeep Singh.

Venue & Expectations

In recent years, Johannesburg has been a very high-scoring venue in white ball cricket. The average first innings score here in the last 5 outings is touching 300, including scores of 315, 341 & 370 in 3 of them. With Klaasen, Markram & Miller in the team, South Africa will be expected to score over 300 if they bat first. India too can give a tough challenge to South Africa with the bat with some good and exciting names in their lineup.

SA vs IND: Match Preview and Dream11 Team for 3rd T20I of IND Tour of SA 2023

0

The South Africans defied a few expectations, orchestrating a masterclass with bat to defeat India in a rain-shortened match on Tuesday.

As opposed to the previous white ball meetings between the two sides, South Africa was more clear with their approach and thinking in Gqeberha as they chased down the required 152 in 15 overs with 5 wickets and 7 balls to spare.

The series will now move on to the New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg for the 3rd and final t20 international.

South Africa

The 2nd T20I turned out to be a perfect start to the Summer for the Proteas side. After winning the toss, Aiden Markram elected to bowl first, and both the Indian openers went out for a duck. However, despite this opening spell effort, the home side’s fast bowlers didn’t perform as expected, and Rinku and Surya smoked them all around the park. The management and captain will desire a more disciplined and controlled bowling by the pace attack as they come closer to the awaited T20 World Cup.

Gerald Coetzee & Tabraiz Shamsi were the pick of the bowlers for Saffas. Even captain Markram himself bowled exceptionally well until the final 2 balls of his spell. His decision to use spinners in the final overs proved to be a wise move in the end.

The run-chase was as perfect as it could get. South Africa will look forward to solidifying their batting as their strength with an aggressive style of play as they did in One Day Cricket this year.

Probable Playing XI: Matthew Breetzke, Reeza Hendricks, Aiden Markram(c), Heinrich Klaasen (wk), David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, Donovan Ferreira/Andile Phehlukwayo, Marco Jansen, Gerald Coetzee, Tabraiz Shamsi, Lizaad Williams.

India

The start of India in the 2nd T20I didn’t go as expected. They lost both their openers early in the innings, but Tilak Verma and Surya Kumar did well enough to utilise powerplay and not let the South Africans get over them. India will want their openers to stay for a longer period as they did against Australia so that players like Rinku & Jitesh are not required to construct the innings in middle overs. India scored 58 runs in the last 7 overs of their innings, which could’ve been way more if not for the early wickets and lack of a reliable partner for Rinku Singh at the end. With the current squad, India can only have a batting depth up to no.7, which makes it more important for their top order to stay for longer.

With the bowl, the match flew from India’s hands way too quickly. Breetzke and Reeza gave no chance to any Indian bowler to settle and before one could even realise the South Africans went way ahead with the run-rate. After the runout of Breetzke, the batters who followed continued the assault with the bat, ensuring that India had no chance to make any comeback in the match.

Rain is not expected to interrupt the 3rd T20I at Johannesburg, allowing the Indian bowlers another opportunity to test themselves against a formidable batting lineup before turning their attention to longer formats.

Probable playing XI: Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Verma, Surya Kumar Yadav(c), Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Mukesh Kumar.

Players To Watch Out For

Matthew Breetzke

Before being unlucky with his dismissal, Breetzke looked promising with his approach in the first t20i. His shots sparked confidence & his thinking was clear. He surely looked on a way to play a beautiful flamboyant innings before getting runout.

He can prove to be the game changer for South Africa in the powerplay in the 3rd T20I as well in the future games that’ll feature him. The Indian fast bowling has been relatively ineffective with the new ball in recent matches, prompting Breetzke to see this as a chance to go on the offensive.

Shubman Gill

Contrasting to his consistent ODI career, Gill has registered 8 single-digit scores in his 12 T20I innings for India. The 24-year-old has not been the same player in T20Is so far as he has been in ODIs and IPL apart from his century against New Zealand at Ahmedabad.

Gill surely has the potential to be a consistent and evergreen T20I batter. With the enormous talent he possesses, eventually, he’ll adapt and perform well for India in this format. Tomorrow India will play their final T20I of the year & Gill would like to wrap it up on a wonderful note before moving onto his preferred format of the game.

SA vs IND: Match Preview and Dream11 Team for 1st T20I of IND Tour of SA 2023

Cricket peaked again. About after 3 years of dull international cricket which included hectic scheduling, out-of-form legends, too much of one format & some board v/s player controversies, we got to see some high drama, thrill & best quality of cricket in the pinnacle event of the sport the ODI World Cup.

Australia won the tournament, claiming their 6th title by defeating India for whom the wait for an ICC trophy continues for the 11th year but there’s one nation who might be even more desperate for a trophy as they last won in 1998 and that is none other than South Africa. The two teams that were knocked out by Australia will be facing each other in a 3-match KFC t20i series as the preparation for the next mega event “The T20 World Cup 2024“ begins.

Team Preview

South Africa

Even though the result of the last 2 T20i series didn’t go their way, the Proteas have taken the format seriously since the nightmare exit from the 2022 T20 World Cup. Aiden Markram was chosen as the new T20 captain following his victory in the first SA20 tournament with Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Reeza Hendricks was given a consecutive 6-match run as an opener in which he didn’t disappoint at all and is currently the highest run-getter in the format for South Africa this year. Donovan Ferreira, Matthew Breetzke and Gerald Coetzee were handed their t20 caps and are very much in the plan moving forward.

Matthew Breetzke is expected to open and keep wickets in the absence of Quinton De Kock, who will be playing Big Bash league this season but will be available for future T20 Internationals.

All the top performers of last season’s SA20 have been considered for the T20I format. Anrich Nortje & Wayne Parnell were not considered as they’re still going through their rehabilitation process after suffering injuries earlier this year.

T20I Squad: Aiden Markram (c), Ottniel Baartman, Matthew Breetzke, Nande Burger, Gerald Coetzee, Donovan Ferreira, Reeza Hendricks, Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaasen, Keshav Maharaj, David Miller, Nandre Burger, Beuran Hendricks, Andile Phehlukwayo, Tabraiz Shamsi, Tristan Stubbs, Lizaad Williams.

India

The Runners-up of the ODI World Cup started their T20 WC preparation well by defeating Australia 4-1 with a fairly young squad under the leadership of Surya Kumar Yadav. Surya will continue to lead India in T20Is for the South Africa series as BCCI still hasn’t made any final decision on who will be India’s captain in the T20 World Cup.

The T20I Squad for South Africa series is pretty much the same as the one that defeated Australia 4-1 except for 2 big changes. Axar Patel who won player of the match award twice in the series isn’t continuing for the India v/s South Africa series, instead Ravindra Jadeja will join the team that too as vice-captain. No specific reason has been given on why Axar has been excluded from the team and the player himself will feel very unlucky to miss out despite giving equally brilliant performances with bowl and bat.

T20I Squad: Surya Kumar Yadav (c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Tilak Verma, Rinku Singh, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Ravindra Jadeja, Jitesh Sharma, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammad Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Deepak Chahar.

Probable Playing XIs

South Africa: Matthew Breetzke (wk), Reeza Hendricks, Aiden Markram (c), Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Gerald Coetzee, Tabraiz Shamsi, Lungi Ngidi.

India: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubhman Gill, Ishan Kishan(wk), Surya Kumar Yadav (c), Shreyas Iyer, Rinku Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammad Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Arshdeep Singh.

Venue & Expectations

South Africa has recently been a very high-scoring venue for white-ball cricket, especially T20 internationals. Durban, the host of the first T20 international is no different. The Australia v/s South Africa series held here a few months ago witnessed some high-scoring games. The spinners of both teams can prove to be the deciding factor for the first game at this venue.

Key Matchups

Aiden Markram v/s Kuldeep Yadav

T20s: 31 runs, 18 balls 0 dismissals

Very contrasting to their odi head to head, Aiden Markram has till now been able to get the better of the left arm chinaman. It’ll be interesting to see how Markram tackles Kuldeep in this series.

David Miller v/s Ravindra Jadeja.

T20: 119 runs, 70 balls, 2 dismissals

Ever since becoming the senior-most batsman of the unit, David Miller’s career has reached new heights, as if the extra pressure of being the most experienced batter in the team brought out the best of him. In a similar vein, Ravindra Jadeja has been appointed as the vice-captain for the series. The face-off between the two t20 giants has given some battles to witness in the past. Jadeja dismissed Miller early in qualifier 1 of IPL 2023, while Miller got the better of him in the 2022 season. With his much improved and aggressive game against spin, expectations will be high from David Miller.

IND vs NED: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 45 of World Cup 2023

We have reached the business end of the tournament, with the last league stage match being conducted tomorrow at the Chinnaswamy.

India is the only team to have remained unbeaten so far, with their campaign being one of the most dominating ones for a team at ODI WCs.

On the other hand, the Netherlands sit at the bottom of the table, even though they have exceeded the majority of cricket fan’s expectations in this tournament.

Team Overview

India

An ICC trophy drought of nearly 10 years and the tag of the host nation levied humongous expectations upon the Indian Cricket team and so far they have responded brilliantly to the pressure.

With 8 out of 8 wins, they have been in their most destructive mode for their last 3 games, especially their bowlers; dismissing their opponents for scores of 83,55 and 129 in their last 3 matches.

  • 3 Indian batsmen feature in the current ICC top 10 ODI batsman rankings, with Gill occupying the top spot.
  • 4 Indian bowlers feature in the current ICC top 10 ODI bowler rankings, with Siraj occupying the top spot.
  • On top of this, India is the top-ranked ODI team in the ICC rankings.

All that remains is the World Cup Trophy.

Netherlands

The only associate nation of this tournament, the Netherlands have exceeded expectations, being the only side other than India to have defeated South Africa in the ongoing tournament.

However, an extra victory against Bangladesh too hasn’t been able to lift them up from the wooden spot position.

Other than that, their Champions Trophy dreams also look almost shattered, as only a win(or no result) tomorrow can get them their ticket to Pakistan.

Death bowling has always been an issue for this Dutch side, and it also proved to be their kryptonite against England who went on to score 339 after being reduced to 192/6 in the last Netherlands game.

Probable Playing XI

India: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammad Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammad Siraj

The only reason for any changes made to the above XI would be with the intention of resting a few of the main players ahead of the knockouts.

Prasidh might get a chance ahead of one of the leading pacers, most likely Bumrah.

Any of the top-order batsmen too might miss out with Ishan Kishan occupying his position.

Netherlands: Max O’Dowd, Wesley Barresi, Colin Ackermann, Sybrand Engelbrecht, Scott Edwards, Bas De Leede, Teja Nidamanuru, Logan Van Beek, Roelof Van Der Merwe, Aryan Dutt, Paul Van Meekeren

Despite the drubbing against England, the Netherlands are likely to go with the same team.

Ryan Klein might get a chance ahead of Teja depending upon what team combination coach Cook will decide upon.

Pitch Report

Chinnaswamy was expected to be a belter and it has seen 2 of the best high-scoring thrillers of the tournament in the form of Australia vs Pakistan and New Zealand vs Pakistan.

However, batting first in the day has proven to be a horrific experience for teams like England and Sri Lanka.

The match might end really early if India gets to field first, with Siraj and Co. wreaking havoc upon the thin Dutch top-order.

Still, Edwards might choose this poison instead of fielding first as the in-form Indian batting can make the bowl travel a distance across the short boundaries of Chinnaswamy.

Players To Watch Out For

Mohammad Siraj: The latest number 1 ranked ODI bowler, 2023 has been a dream year for Miyaa.

40 wickets @18.95, Siraj has been one of the key pieces in solving India’s problems with the new ball. Only 6 wickets away from having the most ODI wickets in 2023, Siraj will be licking his lips after seeing the horrendous numbers of the Dutch top order.

Scott Edwards: Captain Marvel, Scott has been the only batsman of the Netherlands whose numbers in the ongoing tournament can be compared with the average modern-day ODI batsman.

With only 97 runs away from becoming the highest scorer for the men in orange in ODIs, Edwards has a golden opportunity to achieve it against India in Chinnaswamy.

Shubman Gill: The new prince in town, Gill has been on a roll so far in ODIs.

Only Ryan Ten Doeschate has a better ODI batting average than Gill(min. 1K runs) and only De Villiers and Gill have a 50+ average and 100+ Strike rate in ODI history (min. 1K runs).

However, he has been a pale shadow of these numbers in the 2023 World Cup, averaging 36.5 across his 6 games. Anyhow, the Dutch bowling attack might be just the team which can help Gill regain his form ahead of the knockouts.

AUS vs BAN: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 43 of World Cup 2023

Dead Rubber for one team, Do or Die for another. Australia will take on Bangladesh on Saturday morning for the last league game for both teams.

Bangladesh had the worst tournament in their recent history, but they still have something to achieve, i.e., Champions Trophy qualification, with 4 teams battling for 2 spots, Bangladesh would be looking to win this game and qualify for CT 2025.

For Australia, this game should be a practice game, they can try different combinations before the big semis.

Team Preview

Bangladesh

Shakib Al Hasan has planned his retirement after the 2025 Champions Trophy, but Bangladesh is now in a tricky position to even qualify for the CT 2025. Mahmudullah carried the Bangladeshi batting unit in 2015 and is doing the same in 2023, which shows Bangladesh have made no improvement. Shakib is unavailable for this match, so he would hope that his team get his retirement dream fulfilled.

Bangladesh has problems in all departments, they would be hoping that each and every player gives his level best so that they can ensure a CT spot.

Even if Bangladesh lose tomorrow, they need to make sure that Australia doesn’t win by 175 runs assuming Australia hits 300 or Australia chases the target in 23 overs with the same assumption, so that Sri Lanka won’t be getting past their net run rate.

Australia

For Australia, it is just like a practice game, they can address all their issues in batting or bowling. Apart from the big show by Maxwell, Australia was dominated by Afghans in all departments. Both Smith and Labuschagne are not in great form, neither is Mitchell Marsh apart from his 100 against Pakistan. Australia would want them to get their form back.

Starc is not the same as he used to be in World Cups, he also needs to find his form before the big semis. There is still confusion over Marcus Stoinis or Cameron Green or they can give a game to Sean Abbott who is the only player from the Australian squad not to feature in any of the games.

Probable Playing XI

Bangladesh: Tanzid Hasan, Litton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto(c), Mushfiqur Rahman(wk), Mahmudullah, Towid Hridoy, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mahedi Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam.

Shakib Al Hasan is ruled out, so Bangladesh can go with Nasum Ahmed or Mahedi Hasan. Mustafizur Rahman is expected to be back.

Australia: David Warner, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Steven Smith, Josh Inglis(wk), Marcus Stoinis, Cameron Green, Sean Abbott, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Adam Zampa.

Maxwell recovering from his injury can be rested, Cameron Green can be tried in his place, and Sean Abbott can come in for any of the pace trio.

Pitch Report

It is a day game so no dew factor to come in. The pitch is considered to be placid and good for batting, high skyscrapers can be seen on the runs per over graph. There can be some assistance to the pacers early on with the ball, but later on, it would be nice for batting.

Players To Watch Out For

David Warner

David Warner has been in absolutely stunning form in this World Cup. He has scored 446 runs in 8 innings with an average of 55.75. Warner would be looking to continue his great form against Bangladesh and be in good touch for the knockout stage. He alongside Travis Head is very crucial for Australia in the knockouts.

Mahmudullah

Mahmudullah came into the World Cup as a wildcard entry but has been their best performer with the ball till now. He has scored 296 runs with an average of 59.2. In his last World Cup game, he would like to deliver a performance to be remembered for ages and get his team a spot in the Champions Trophy 2025.

SA vs AFG: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 42 of World Cup 2023

One team has qualified for the semis, and one’s hope is still alive with a thin thread, Afghanistan and South Africa will battle it out in their last league match of the tournament.

South Africa got humbled by India in their last league game, but they will try to forget that game and focus on getting their momentum back and being in a good state of mind before the semis.

Afghanistan got blown away by the Big Show Maxwell, an innings to remember for ages. They would try to regroup as soon as possible and do their best to defeat the mighty Proteas.

Team Preview

South Africa

South Africa has dominated the opponents’ batting first and got dominated by the opponents while batting second. They need to figure out the correct approach while chasing targets, not every player should attack, and one should be the anchor. Temba Bavuma has been off-colour in this tournament, he would be looking to get his form back before the important knockout matches. South African bowlers easily get rid of the top order but fail to remove the lower-order batters. There are some areas of issues which the Proteas need to fix before the big name against Australia.

Afghanistan

Afghanistan has done exceptionally well, but has choked in some matches either be it against Bangladesh or Australia, they have failed to show the killing instinct. Despite chasing 200+ against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, they have lacked the aggressive intent which is a must in modern-era cricket. Captain Hashmatullah has to be the main culprit of this slowish approach of the Afghani batters. He has failed to rotate the strike or strike the ball out of the park at regular intervals. He plays too many dot balls building pressure on the other batter.

Probable Playing XI

South Africa: Temba Bavuma(c), Quinton De Kock(wk), Rassie Van Der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klassen, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Gerald Cotezee, Lizard Williams, Kagiso Rabada.

Considering Lungi Ngidi’s injury, South Africa can rest him and keep him fresh for the semis.

Afghanistan: Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi(c), Azmatullah Omarzai, Ikram Alkhil(wk), Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Naveen-ul-Haq, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Noor Ahmad.

Fazalhaq Farooqi is a must for Afghanistan as they are powerless in their pace department.

Pitch Report

Previously the pitch used to be an assistance to spin bowlers, but since the ICC demerits point given to the pitch in the Third test match against India vs England 2021, it has changed and has become a batting paradise. High Scores are a must on his pitch.

  • Average first innings score in Ahmedabad – 241
  • Matches won after batting first – 15
  • Matches won by chasing team- 14

Players To Watch Out For

Quinton De Kock

Quinton De Kock, the highest run scorer of the tournament, would like to continue his flow and keep on scoring runs and tons. He has been a star in the first innings but failed to score in the second innings. In the three innings in which he played batting second, he has failed to cross even 30 runs, he would be hoping to change this soon, otherwise, South Africa would be in deep problem in the semis.

Azmatullah Omarzai

Azmatullah Omarzai has been the find of the tournament for Afghanistan. He plays at a high strike rate and an aggressive intent, which is not visible in the middle order of the Afghani batting. He needs to bat up the order, if Afghanistan want to make a score between 300-350. His bowling is a bonus for Afghanistan, surprisingly he has the same number of wickets as Mujeeb Ur Rahman, despite bowling fewer overs.

Marco Jansen

Marco Jansen is an upgrade over Omarzai, he bowls at a much higher pace and strikes the ball at a much higher rate. Marco Jansen has taken 14 wickets in the powerplay and 17 wickets in all. His ball-striking ability makes him more valuable. He has also shown his resilience to stay in the crease for a long time in the match against the Netherlands. Marco Jansen can win any match for South Africa on his given day.

ENG vs NED: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 40 of World Cup 2023

The only two European sides of this tournament, none would have predicted that the Netherlands would be placed above England in the points table after 7 matches for each team, but here we are.

With both teams out of the semi-finals race (Netherlands have a mathematical possibility!), don’t let this let you believe that their battle on the 8th will be a dead-rubber for both teams will look to finish inside the top 8 to book a spot in the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Team Preview

Netherlands

After a comfortable win of 87 runs against Bangladesh, spirits were on a high inside the Dutch camp. Thus, they should be disappointed by their performance against Afghanistan, where Shahidi and Co. wrapped up proceedings within 31.3 overs of batting.

What was most surprising was the fact that 4 out of the top 5 Dutch batters were run out. In a tournament where the Netherlands have been one of the best teams to get their basics right, such a performance can be only termed as shambolic.

Though that shouldn’t take away from the fact that the Netherlands have exceeded many expectations, and have a golden opportunity to book a ticket to Pakistan.

England

England’s run in CWC 23 so far is arguably the worst performance in an ICC tournament by a defending champion. Predicted by many to at least make it into the semis, England have shocked the world, managing to secure a solitary win so far, languishing right at the bottom of the points table.

From the bowling perspective, their performances have improved in the last 2 matches, especially with the new ball.

But the batting unit, which was supposed to be their stronger department, has continued its disappointing campaign.

England’s batting average is only better than the Netherlands in this World Cup.

Anyhow, England has been part of every ICC tournament held till now. They surely won’t want to miss the 2025 one!

Pitch Report

The Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune was expected to oversee high-scoring encounters over the winter though so far it hasn’t lived up to the expectations, with its average run rate being 7th amongst the 10 stadiums which are part of the ongoing tournament.

New-ball bowlers such as Farooqi and Jansen have found success over here and with England finding their mojo during the first 10 overs, the Netherlands need to ensure the match isn’t over soon.

Probable Playing XI

Netherlands: Max O’Dowd, Vikramjit Singh, Wesley Barresi, Colin Ackermann, Sybrand Engelbrecht, Bas De Leede, Scott Edwards, Logan Van Beek, Roelof Van Der Merwe, Aryan Dutt, Paul Van Meekeren

Vikramjit was dropped after a 6-game long run in favour of Saqib.

With the pitch not expected to be as helpful for spinners as Ekana has been, Saqib is unlikely to retain his place.

The Netherlands might favour an extra bowler and instead bring in Ryan Klein.

England: Johnny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Harry Brooks, Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood

Despite facing only losses, England has gone with the same XI in their previous 2 matches.

Liam has been one of the worst batters of this World Cup, averaging 10 across 6 innings.

Youngster Harry might replace him.

Wood too has been hardly effective, leaking runs at an economy of 6.46, and Sam Curran has a shot of making a comeback into the XI.

Players To Watch Out For

Sybrand Engelbrecht: A 35-year-old (now 36), having last played a professional game way back in 2016, I wasn’t impressed with Sybrand being picked as one of the 15 members of the Dutch squad. Though he has certainly proved me wrong.

The highest run-getter for the Netherlands so far, his strike rate of 69.16 doesn’t do justice to his gritty knocks against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Apart from that he has been electric in the field, as he was in the 2008 U-19 World Cup, and would look to inflict the run-outs, of which the Dutch were a victim against the Afghans.

David Willey: One of the few English players who have looked as if they have given their all in this World Cup, Willey will be retiring at the end of the tournament, due to not receiving a Central Contract from ECB.

Anyhow, Willey would want to leave the ODI scene with a bang.

He has been brilliant with the new ball, and he might just replicate what Starc had done earlier this season against the same opponent.

Adil Rashid: With only 6 wickets away from becoming only the 3rd Englishman to reach the 200 ODI milestone.

A fine servant for his nation in white-ball, Adil has been sort of a lone warrior for the team with the ball, picking up 10 wickets @30, with an economy under 5. The 2nd best economy for an English bowler in CWC 23 is 5.41 belonging to Willey.

The Netherlands have panicked earlier against quality spin, and Adil will want to reach the above-mentioned milestone as early as possible.

ENG vs AUS: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 36 of World Cup 2023

When we talk about cricket we talk about its inventor which was England and the team that has dominated the game most i.e. Australia. Whenever these two teams fight every cricket lover just stops and watches the mind games, the anticipation the thrill.

We are heading towards the Mini Ashes. Australia on the one hand is a top contender for the top 4 as they have got 8 points from 6 matches whereas England has gone through a disastrous tour of India as they have won only 1 game in 6 matches and are out of the competition.

It looks pretty one-sided competition if you look at the Standings but it’s not as England hasn’t played even on their 50% potential. A lot of debates and changes pre-tournament were a big reason i.e. not picking Jason Roy who played a vital role in the 2019 WC triumph for England and is regarded as one of the most destructive openers in white ball cricket. Ben Stokes returning from retirement and Joe Root not getting enough time before the tournament. Australia on the other hand are a spinner short but still, they have managed as the head has also returned in the mix from injury.

Team Preview

England

England will look to play for their pride and spoil the party for Australians but do you know another thing interesting about this tournament that the top 8 teams will qualify for the Champions Trophy in 2025? Pakistan has qualified automatically as they are the hosts and England has to finish at 8 to qualify for the CT. It’s quite unreal that the Defending champions of both CWC and WT20 are fighting for a place in the Champions Trophy, Well that’s how cricket works. As this match will take place in Ahmedabad English team might play their natural game as the pitch and ground will support them. They will target the square boundaries.

Australia

Australia has to win this match as then they will have 1 step into the semis with the remaining two matches vs Bangladesh and Afghanistan with due respect they should fancy themselves to win against these teams. Head and Warner will be the key here for them and Steve Smith will look to get into the rhythm as he has gone through a horrific tournament as of now. Captain Cummins is doing a decent job but Mitch starc has to pull up his socks now in the remaining tournament.

Probable Playing XI

Australia: David Warner, Travis Head, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green, Josh Inglis (wk), Marcus Stoinis, Pat Cummins(C), Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa

England: Dawid Malan, Johnny Bairstow, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler (c) (wk), Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, David Willey, Mark Wood, Adil Rashid,

Pitch Report

The surface here at the Ahmedabad in the afternoon might be a bit slow but might act a lot better in the 2nd innings because of the Dew factor. One thing the chasing team should keep in mind is that the ball swings here under lights for a time period of the first 6 overs. The ball will come nicely on the bat and batters can play on the upshots easily here.

  • Total matches being played – 30
  • Matches won by batting first – 16
  • Matches won by bowling first -14
  • Average 1st Inns scores here – 235
  • Average 2nd Inns scores here – 205

Players To Watch Out For

David Warner: David Warner the pocket Dynamo is a all time great CWC batter. He has scored runs in every white ball format be it one-day cricket, T20 Internationals or the IPL / BBL. The reason for it has been his prolific backfoot game and mental toughness. He will look to equal Rohit Sharma in the most CWC 100s list.

Chris Woakes: Woakes will be a deciding factor in this match as he has the ability to move the ball at the top and get some wickets as he did in the 2019 CWC semi-final finishing the journey of Aussies. Woakes rely on tight line and length and balls back of the length bowling. He might go a yard fuller as he had good success with this plan before this match.

Travis Head: Travis Head has been striking over 120 in the first powerplay in the last 3 years and it’s simply ridiculous as some of the modern T20 batters do not strike at this rate. Head has been in significant form or you can say he has been in the form of his life. Played a good role in drawing the ashes, winning WTC and now will look to win the ultimate title.

NZ vs PAK: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 35 of World Cup 2023

Probably the mother of all battles in this World Cup in the context of the semis. Teams hanging around 3,4,5,6 positions will have a keen eye on this match, especially Afghanistan. This game can make or break the hopes of any nation making it to the semis. Net Run Rate will also be in consideration by the team management, if they lose, they should make sure that their run out won’t get hurt too much.

New Zealand started the tournament with a bang winning all first four matches, but since then have gone downhill, losing consecutive 3 matches, and have found themselves on the edge of their seats.

Pakistan lost 4 consecutive matches in the World Cup which made their semi-final path hard, but now have defeated Bangladesh and are now high on confidence. In the encounter against Bangladesh, batters and bowlers kicked all the boxes.

Team Preview

New Zealand

New Zealand have called up Kyle Jamieson as a reserve player, as Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson are suffering from injury. The injured player list is long including players like Kane Williamson, Mark Chapman, James Neesham, Matt Henry, and Lockie Ferguson. It would be interesting to see how New Zealand get 11 players fit. There are plenty of problems in all three departments.

Pakistan

Fakhar Zaman has shown the right intent for the Pakistani batting lineup. In his comeback innings, he smashed 7 sixes, which is the third highest in the Pakistani team. The inclusion of Mohammad Wasim Jr has been a boon for the Pakistani team. Shaheen Shah Afridi is their MVP of the tournament bagging 16 wickets in the tournament. Babar Azam needs to set up for his nation, he is performing below his potential.

Probable Playing XI

New Zealand: Will Young, Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham(wk,c), Gleen Philips, Mitch Santner, Tim Southee, Ish Sodhi, Trent Boult, Matt Henry/Lockie Ferguson.

Ish Sodhi can come in for James Neesham to strengthen bowling, while all other players’ participation depends on fitness.

Pakistan: Fakhar Zaman, Abdullah Shafique, Babar Azam(c), Mohammad Rizwan(wk), Iftikhar Ahmed, Agha Salman, Usama Mir, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf.

Shadab Khan can come in for Usama Mir, but this is unlikely to happen.

Pitch Report

Chinnaswamy has always been a batting paradise and is expected to be the same. Batting first could be beneficial here as it is a day game, so no dew factor to come into play. Bat first sensibly score as much as possible. Runs on board is always pressure for any batting lineup.

Players To Watch Out For

Shaheen Shah Afridi: The Eagle is flying high in this World Cup. He has taken 16 wickets with an average of 19.94. Whenever Captain Babar Azam needs to break a partnership, he looks for the No.1 ODI Bowler in the world and he delivers to the expectation of the captain. Alongside the other two quickies, Shaheen would hope to keep on delivering for the nation.

Abdullah Shafique: Pakistan media’s “Generational Talent” has proven himself at the biggest cricketing stage. He has scored four 50+ scores in the tournament. He has scored the most sixes for them. With Fakhar Zaman playing aggressively from the start removing pressure, Shafique can take some time and try to score big.

Glenn Philips: Glenn is a player all the teams crave, he can bat, ball, keep and also is a gun fielder. He has taken 6 wickets till now, which is too good for a part timer. Whenever Tom Latham needs a wicket, Philips provide him one. He fought alone by batting for the betterment of the run rate. New Zealand would want him to contribute in both batting and bowling so that they can secure a semi-final spot.

NED vs AFG: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 34 of World Cup 2023

Two teams who have emerged as the cricketing world’s “2nd teams” in the ongoing tournament, Netherlands and Afghanistan have so far put up their best-ever ICC tournament performances.

Afghanistan, who has won only 1 game in their first 17 CWC matches, have now won 3 of their last 4 games at the grandest stage.

On the other hand, the Netherlands have gone toe-to-toe with the big guns, now aiming to make it into the 2025 Champions Trophy for which they have to finish in the top 8 of the points table.

Team Overview

Netherlands

Exceeding expectations in the first 4 games which included a victory over South Africa, the Netherlands were given a hard reality check when the 5-time champions demolished them through a 309-run victory at Dharamshala. From an outsider’s point of view, spirits seemed to be down in the Netherlands camp, never more than when they were 107/5 against Bangladesh at what seemed to be an away game for the Dutch.

However, Scott Edwards had other plans. His crucial 68 runs propelled Netherlands to a respectable total, and the Dutch bowling, led by Van Meekeren’s 4fer ensured it was a thumping win for them, a margin of 87 runs.

According to recent developments, the Top 8 nations in the CWC 23 points table will be the only participating teams at the 2025 Champions Trophy along with hosts Pakistan.

This is a golden opportunity for the Netherlands to book their tickets for what will be their first-ever ICC Champions trophy tournament

Afghanistan

A team which always finds itself on the wrong side of close encounters, their opening game loss against Bangladesh had convinced many that it will be yet another below-expectation ICC tournament for Afghanistan. But wins against England, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, now mean Afghanistan have an outside shot of making it to the top 4!

Their middle order, arguably their biggest weakness before the tournament, has stepped up on the big stage, playing a huge role in their previous 2 victories.

Their encounter against Australia will be crucial but to ensure they are in the hunt when that match takes place, they first need to take care of the Netherlands at Ekana.

Probable Playing XI

Netherlands: Max O’Dowd, Vikramjit Singh, Wesley Barresi, Colin Ackermann, Bas De Leede, Scott Edwards, Sybrand Engelbrecht, Logan Van Beek, Roelof Van Der Merwe, Aryan Dutt, Paul Van Meekeren

The only obvious change from the Netherlands’ latest victory seems to be Roelof making his way back into the team, after having missed the previous match due to illness, in place of Shariz who bowled only 2 overs in his WC debut match.

Other than that, Max O’Dowd’s performance so far has been terrible, averaging 10.17 in his 6 games so far.

Ryan Cook might bring in Teja, and ask the in-form Barresi to open, a role he essenced in the 2011 World Cup

Afghanistan: Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmat Shah, Hasmatullah Shahidi, Azmatullah Omarzai, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmed, Fazal Haq Farooqi

Noor Ahmed bagged the MOTM award against Pakistan in his debut CWC match and was dropped for the next game for Farooqi who in turn won his first MOTM of the tournament.

With the match happening at Ekana, Afghanistan will likely stick to their “horses for courses” mantra, and the bowler who will have to sit out this time will probably be Naveen-Ul-Haq, who has been expensive throughout the tournament.

Other than that, Ikram Akhil picked up an injury against Sri Lanka and there’s no certainty on whether he will be available at Lucknow. If he isn’t, Najibullah, who was dropped after the opening match, will likely replace him.

Pitch Report

Ekana, the “bowlers haven” of IPL 2023, lived up to this tag in the England vs India game. India defeated the defending Champs by 100 runs, despite scoring 229 in the first innings

New-ball Pacers are expected to enjoy the lateral movement on display such as the English bowlers who had been whacked mercilessly in the overs 1-10 prior to the match.

Spinners will get the ball to grip and turn, and will probably out-punch their pacer counterparts by just an inch.

Expect the Dutch part-time spinners to bowl more than usual, and Afghanistan to play their 4-man spin attack.

Players To Watch Out For

Rashid Khan: The face of Afghanistan Cricket, Rashid has usually struggled against the bigger sides in ODIs, and his current tournament too hasn’t been extraordinary though his economy of 4.88 has kept the opposition in check. He might have picked up more wickets if not for the terrible fielding of Afghanistan (Rashid has 2 dropped catches off his bowling against New Zealand).

A pitch like Ekana is the exact strip which can help Rashid exhibit his skills and pick up the wickets which he has been looking for throughout the tournament.

Paul Van Meekeren: Resorting to a job as an Uber Eats driver during the COVID pandemic, Paul has had an unreal rise in his cricketing career. The 8th joint-highest taker of the tournament, Paul has made great use of cross-seam in the middle overs, becoming a real enforcer for the team in the middle phase, a phase where the Dutch have struggled in the past. His performances were rewarded through a MOTM award against Bangladesh and he would want to extend this streak against another Asian side.

Azmatullah Omarzai: Having played only 13 ODIs prior to the tournament, Omarzai has been a revelation for Afghanistan in CWC 23.

203 runs @50.75 with a strike rate of 97.6, Omarzai has been an integral force in sorting out Afghanistan’s middle-order conundrums. Add to that he has also picked up 5 wickets so far.

Omarzai’s name shines amongst the various finds of the tournament and he would want to keep up his good form against the Netherlands.
