ENG vs AUS: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 36 of World Cup 2023

When we talk about cricket we talk about its inventor which was England and the team that has dominated the game most i.e. Australia. Whenever these two teams fight every cricket lover just stops and watches the mind games, the anticipation the thrill.

We are heading towards the Mini Ashes. Australia on the one hand is a top contender for the top 4 as they have got 8 points from 6 matches whereas England has gone through a disastrous tour of India as they have won only 1 game in 6 matches and are out of the competition.

It looks pretty one-sided competition if you look at the Standings but it’s not as England hasn’t played even on their 50% potential. A lot of debates and changes pre-tournament were a big reason i.e. not picking Jason Roy who played a vital role in the 2019 WC triumph for England and is regarded as one of the most destructive openers in white ball cricket. Ben Stokes returning from retirement and Joe Root not getting enough time before the tournament. Australia on the other hand are a spinner short but still, they have managed as the head has also returned in the mix from injury.

Team Preview

England

England will look to play for their pride and spoil the party for Australians but do you know another thing interesting about this tournament that the top 8 teams will qualify for the Champions Trophy in 2025? Pakistan has qualified automatically as they are the hosts and England has to finish at 8 to qualify for the CT. It’s quite unreal that the Defending champions of both CWC and WT20 are fighting for a place in the Champions Trophy, Well that’s how cricket works. As this match will take place in Ahmedabad English team might play their natural game as the pitch and ground will support them. They will target the square boundaries.

Australia

Australia has to win this match as then they will have 1 step into the semis with the remaining two matches vs Bangladesh and Afghanistan with due respect they should fancy themselves to win against these teams. Head and Warner will be the key here for them and Steve Smith will look to get into the rhythm as he has gone through a horrific tournament as of now. Captain Cummins is doing a decent job but Mitch starc has to pull up his socks now in the remaining tournament.

Probable Playing XI

Australia: David Warner, Travis Head, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green, Josh Inglis (wk), Marcus Stoinis, Pat Cummins(C), Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa

England: Dawid Malan, Johnny Bairstow, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler (c) (wk), Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, David Willey, Mark Wood, Adil Rashid,

Pitch Report

The surface here at the Ahmedabad in the afternoon might be a bit slow but might act a lot better in the 2nd innings because of the Dew factor. One thing the chasing team should keep in mind is that the ball swings here under lights for a time period of the first 6 overs. The ball will come nicely on the bat and batters can play on the upshots easily here.

  • Total matches being played – 30
  • Matches won by batting first – 16
  • Matches won by bowling first -14
  • Average 1st Inns scores here – 235
  • Average 2nd Inns scores here – 205

Players To Watch Out For

David Warner: David Warner the pocket Dynamo is a all time great CWC batter. He has scored runs in every white ball format be it one-day cricket, T20 Internationals or the IPL / BBL. The reason for it has been his prolific backfoot game and mental toughness. He will look to equal Rohit Sharma in the most CWC 100s list.

Chris Woakes: Woakes will be a deciding factor in this match as he has the ability to move the ball at the top and get some wickets as he did in the 2019 CWC semi-final finishing the journey of Aussies. Woakes rely on tight line and length and balls back of the length bowling. He might go a yard fuller as he had good success with this plan before this match.

Travis Head: Travis Head has been striking over 120 in the first powerplay in the last 3 years and it’s simply ridiculous as some of the modern T20 batters do not strike at this rate. Head has been in significant form or you can say he has been in the form of his life. Played a good role in drawing the ashes, winning WTC and now will look to win the ultimate title.
