DC vs MI: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream11 Team for Match 16 of IPL 2023

The winner of this game will be decided by which side the “Law of Averages” goes with as both Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians are yet to win a game this season. Delhi is at the bottom of the points table with 3 losses in 3 matches while Mumbai is one spot above them in the 9th position with 2 defeats in 2 games. One team will register their first win of this season and it’ll be very interesting to see which team it will be.

Delhi lost their last game by 57 runs against the Rajasthan Royals while Mumbai was defeated by the Chennai Super Kings by 7 wickets in their last match. Both teams have been below par as a team and they must regroup and start winning before it’s too late for them.

Team Preview

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals have a good squad but they have been pretty average as a team. The bowlers have been very expensive and the batters have failed to get going. David Warner has scored runs but his strike rate has been on the lower side. Prithvi Shaw, Rilee Rossouw and others have also failed with the bat. Their batting unit depends heavily on the overseas batters and Prithvi Shaw and almost everyone is going through a lean patch except Warner.

Their bowling looks good the bowlers need to be disciplined with the ball. The likes of Anrich Nortje, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Khaleel Ahmed are the main bowlers for the Capitals. They were expensive in the last game. As mentioned earlier, Delhi needs to regroup as a team and bounce back strongly.

Mumbai Indians

The bowling attack’s incompetence is a big factor in Mumbai’s poor performance in the first two games but the batting unit has also failed which is a big headache for the management. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav and Cameron Green have failed to score consistently. Tilak Varma and to an extent Tim David are the only performers with the bat for Mumbai.

They face some serious issues with the ball as Jofra Archer was given a precautionary rest considering his elbow injury. And the other bowlers are not that experienced in the IPL. Kumar Kartikeya, Jason Behrendorff, Arshad Khan and Piyush Chawla must step up with the ball. Mumbai will depend on their batters to win them games.

Pitch Venue Report

The last game played here saw plenty of assistance for the pacers, especially with the new ball in the first innings. It’s expected to be similar in this game but overall, it will be an excellent venue for batting. The pitch at the Arun Jaitley Stadium is a good one for batting and the ground dimensions are on the smaller side as well. The average first innings score here is 177 runs and chasing sides have won 52% of the games played here.

Probable Playing XI

Delhi Capitals: David Warner (c), Prithvi Shaw, Manish Pandey, Rilee Rossouw, Lalit Yadav, Rovman Powell, Axar Patel, Abhishek Porel (wk), Kuldeep Yadav, Anrich Nortje, Khaeel Ahmed

Mumbai Indians: Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Cameron Green, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Nehal Wadhera, Tim David, Arshad Khan, Jofra Archer/Duan Jansen, Hritik Shokeen, Jason Behrendorff/Riley Meredith

Players to Watch Out For

David Warner

Despite his low strike rate, David Warner has been the only batter amongst some runs for Delhi. He has scored 158 runs at an average of 52.67. He scored 65 runs in the last game against Rajasthan. Warner is not at his destructive best and he needs players like Prithvi Shaw and Rilee Rossouw to bat aggressively around him. He will be an important player in this game.

Anrich Nortje

Anrich Nortje is the lead pacer for Delhi and he can wreak havoc if he gets some assistance off the deck for this match. He is one of the fastest bowlers in world cricket and can trouble the batters with his pace and bounce. Nortje picked up 2 wickets in his first game of this season against Gujarat.

Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan scored 32 runs in the last match. He looked in good touch and played aggressively in the power play. Kishan can score big when on the song and MI team management and fans will be expecting him to do well in this match.

Jofra Archer

Jofra Archer, if he plays, will be the best bowler from Mumbai. He has a good record against David Warner and he can exploit Delhi’s struggle against high-pace bowling. Archer is capable with the bat as well and can score some runs if he gets the chance to bat.

Key Matchups

David Warner vs Jofra Archer: Runs – 27, Balls – 31, Dismissals – 4 (T20s + T20Is)

Suryakumar Yadav vs Anrich Nortje: Runs – 18, Balls – 13, Dismissals – 1

Rohit Sharma vs Anrich Nortje: Runs – 20, Balls – 17, Dismissals – 2

Prithvi Shaw vs Jofra Archer: Runs – 14, Balls – 16, Dismissals – 2

RCB vs LSG: Match Preview, Key Matchups and Dream11 Team for Match 15 of IPL 2023

RCB come back home with the next 3 games in Bengaluru hoping to get their campaign back on track while LSG looks to continue their winning run.

Team Preview

Royal Challengers Bangalore

RCB lost their way after a good start against KKR where they looked toothless against the KKR spin duo. The death bowling continues to disappoint as their star bowlers lack the discipline required for this stage while their batting against spin has proven to be a real problem.
The openers have been the main plus point for this team so far. Against KKR where the ball was seaming around with 2 bowlers who mastered this skill, Faf and Virat showed everyone why they were top batsmen by playing shots that reduced risk and putting their experience to good use. Virat looked to find the gaps with the pace on the ball and looked to go over the keeper if it was over-pitched, while Faf trusted the bouncy pitch and decided to go over the fielders.
The bowlers have been very poor in the death overs with all of them losing their line and lengths
RCB will be desperate to have Harshal Patel do well who will once again primarily bowl the final 10 overs.

Lucknow Super Giants

Lucknow’s biggest challenge will be to cope with the change in venue. With Mayers in good form and having a powerful batting lineup, Lucknow will back their batsmen to put up a big score with all of their batsmen having the game to score quick runs on a pitch that will help the batsmen. Their spinners have helped them win the last game but they have fallen short when the pitches have been batting-friendly. Their attack looked toothless in the game against CSK with Bishnoi being the lone bowler who showed promise. In the DC game, it was the Mark Wood show as he ran over the fragile batting lineup giving DC no chance to recover.

LSG spin twins vs RCB middle order

On a pitch where teams will look to cross the 200 barriers, this matchup becomes very important. Krunal and Bishnoi working in tandem will be a major headache for RCB. Krunal has the ability to bowl in the powerplay and keep tight lines to restrict run flow while Bishnoi has been a very good middle-over wicket-taker. This duo clearly has the ability to choke RCB in the middle overs where they will look for runs, as for RCB this is a worrying area. Bracewell doesn’t seem confident but surely has the skill while Maxi has looked like a shadow of himself coming back from injury and continues to struggle against left-arm spin. These 2 players are the only competent spin players in the middle order with the other batsmen such as DK and Shahbaz almost becoming a liability. KL will be aware of this and will use these 8 overs wisely while RCB will look to use their Indian batsmen in a more effective way. Having picked Anuj Rawat over Suyash, he will be given the role to disrupt these players and give extra breathing room to the RCB batting and protect their finishers so they can face up against their favourable matchups.

This match will be a close one with LSG batsmen looking to give their able bowlers some runs on the board while RCB looks to correct the few holes in their squad.

Probable Playing XI

Royal Challengers Bangalore: Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Anuj Rawat/Mahipal Lomror, Glenn Maxwell, Shahbaz Ahmed, Dinesh Karthik, Michael Bracewell, David Willey, Harshal Patel, Karn Sharma, Mohammad Siraj

Lucknow Super Giants: KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, Deepak Hooda, Kyle Mayers, Nicholas Pooran, Krunal Pandya, Amit Mishra, Yash Thakur, Avesh Khan, Mark Wood, Ravi Bishnoi

SRH vs PBKS: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream11 Team for Match 14 of IPL 2023

Sunrisers Hyderabad are having a tough time this season. They have lost both games played until now and are at the bottom of the points table. They lost their last game by 5 wickets against Lucknow. Their batters have failed miserably and they need to start performing before it’s too late for them. The bowlers have been in good form and it’s up to the batters to complement them.

Punjab Kings, on the other hand, have started off really well. They have won both matches until now and are in the 3rd position in the points table. They defeated the Rajasthan Royals by 5 runs in their last game. The batters are in good form while the bowlers have assisted them quite well. Punjab will be eyeing their third consecutive win in this game.

Team Preview

Sunrisers Hyderabad

The batters have failed miserably and that’s the main reason for their poor performance. They have many quality players and excellent depth in their squad. The likes of Aiden Markram, Mayank Agarwal, Abdul Samad, Abhishek Sharma, Harry Brook, Glenn Phillips and Heinrich Klaasen are proven performers and SRH must get their combinations right with the bat.

They have plenty of good options with the ball as well. Umran Malik, Fazalhaq Farooqi, T Natarajan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Adil Rashid and Washington Sundar form a very strong bowling attack. They also have Marco Jansen and Akeal Hosein in their ranks. Hyderabad must regroup and start performing as a team.

Punjab Kings

The likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Prabhsimran Singh, Jitesh Sharma, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Shahrukh Khan, Sikandar Raza and Sam Curran form an explosive batting unit. They have done well in the first two games and will look to continue that in this match as well. The bowlers have been excellent led by Arshdeep Singh, Sam Curran, and Nathan Ellis. Ellis has been phenomenal as he picked up 4 wickets in the last game. Sikandar Raza and Rahul Chahar are the main spinners for Punjab. They are in good form as a team and will look to continue that in this match.

Pitch Venue Report

The pitch at Hyderabad is a balanced one. Overall, it’s a good one for batting but there will be some movement for the pacers with the new ball and the spinners will get some purchase as well. The batters need to settle in before playing their shots. The average first innings score here is 163 runs and teams batting first have won 61% of the matches played here.

Probable Playing XI

Sunrisers Hyderabad: Mayank Agarwal, Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram (c), Heinrich Klaassen (wk), Glenn Phillips, Washington Sundar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umran Malik, Fazalhaq Farooqi, T Natarajan

Punjab Kings: Shikhar Dhawan (c), Prabhsimran Singh, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Sikandar Raza, Sam Curran, Shahrukh Khan, Harpreet Brar, Nathan Ellis/Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar, Arshdeep Singh

Players to Watch Out For

Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan scored 86* runs in the last match. He has a total of 126 runs at an average of 126 in the two games so far. He will hold one end and look to throughout the 20 overs.

Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh picked up 3 wickets in the first game and 2 in the last one. He has been brilliant in the power play and will be a key bowler for Punjab. He’ll look to pick up a few wickets with the new ball and push Hyderabad on the backfoot.

Aiden Markram

Aiden Markam got out for a golden duck in the last game but he is a champion batter and will look to bounce back strongly in this game. He will bat at number 4 and may bowl a few overs as well. Markram will be a key pick in fantasy cricket as well.

Umran Malik

Umran Malik has been decent in the two matches until now. He is one of the fastest bowlers in the tournament and he can trouble the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Prabhsimran Singh and Bhanuka Rajapaksa with his pace and bounce.

RR vs PBKS: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream11 Team for Match 8 of IPL 2023

Rajasthan Royals had a great start this season as they defeated the Sunrisers by 72 runs in their first game of IPL 2023. Their batters and bowlers are in good form and will be very confident coming into this game.

Punjab Kings, meanwhile, also won their first game of this season. They defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders by 7 runs (DLS Method). The batters put up a good score and the bowlers were disciplined with the ball and defended the total. They have had a good start like every season and they’ll need to be consistent as a team if they are to do well.

Team Preview

Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals have one of the strongest and most balanced squads in the tournament. They have excellent depth in their batting with the likes of Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Devdutt Padikkal, Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag and Jason Holder. They have the luxury to promote Ravi Ashwin as well.

The Royals have a good variety with the ball as well. They have Trent Boult, Jason Holder, KM Asif and Kuldeep Sen in the pace department while Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal are their main spinners. They also have Adam Zampa in their ranks while Riyan Parag can also roll his arm if required. Rajasthan will look to continue the winning momentum in this game.

Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings won the first game on the back of a good all-round performance from their team. All the batters contributed, especially Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Shikhar Dhawan. The bowlers were on point as well with Arshdeep Singh leading from the front. Sam Curran contributed with both bat and ball. Sikandar Raza was good as well. Punjab has an explosive batting unit but they have some issues with the batting depth and this is where the impact player rule comes to their rescue.

Liam Livingstone’s absence is a big blow to them and there are reports that Kagiso Rabada may miss a few games as well. But they’ve got good backups for them in Sikandar Raza and Nathan Ellis respectively. The Punjab Kings will look to register their second consecutive win.

Pitch Venue Report

The pitch at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati is expected to an excellent one for batting. The sample size of this ground is too low but the batters have enjoyed their time at this venue. There have been 2 T20Is played here and the average 1st innings score is 178 runs. The highest score here is 237 runs in T20Is and 373 in ODIs. There will be some help for the pacers in the power play but other than that, the batters will dominate the match.

Probable Playing XI

Rajasthan Royals: Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Devdutt Padikkal, Sanju Samson (c & wk), Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult, KM Asif, Yuzvendra Chahal

Punjab Kings: Shikhar Dhawan (c), Prabhsimran Singh, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Sikandar Raza, Sam Curran, Shahrukh Khan, Harpreet Brar, Nathan Ellis/Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar, Arshdeep Singh

Players to Watch Out For

Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler started off from where he left in the last season. He scored 54 off just 22 deliveries and helped his side to a flying start. We saw the best of Buttler in the last season and it looks as if he’s on the way to repeating something similar this season.

Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson scored 55 runs including 3 fours and 4 sixes. He ensured that Rajasthan ends up with a big total. He’s the key batter for his team in the middle overs and he can take down any bowling attack once he gets going.

Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan scored 40 runs in the first game. He wasn’t at his best but he played well. Dhawan’s role in this side is to hold one end and bat for a longer period with the others batting around him. He’s one of the best batters in the IPL and will look to score big in this game.

Sam Curran

Sam Curran scored crucial 26* runs with the bat and then he picked up the all-important wicket of Andre Russell to close the game for Punjab. Curran will play a key role with both bat and ball.

Key Matchups

Jos Buttler vs Arshdeep Singh: Runs – 15, Balls – 13, Dismissals – 1

Sanju Samson vs Arshdeep Singh: Runs – 49, Balls – 26, Dismissals – 1

Shikhar Dhawan vs Trent Boult: Runs – 68, Balls – 61, Dismissals – 1

Shikhar Dhawan vs Yuzvendra Chahal: Runs – 73, Balls – 64, Dismissals – 3

DC vs GT: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream11 Team for Match 7 of IPL 2023

Delhi Capitals will be against the defending champions Gujarat Titans in the 7th game of IPL 2023. Delhi lost their first game against the Lucknow Super Giants by 50 runs. They’ll look to regroup as a team and bounce back strongly. Gujarat, on the other hand, started off their season in style as they defeated the Chennai Super Kings by 5 wickets in the season opener. Both teams have some quality players in their ranks and it promises to be a thriller of a contest.

Team Preview

Delhi Capitals

Delhi’s batting unit looked helpless against the pace of Mark Wood in the first game. David Warner scored 56 runs but he was not at his best with the bat. The likes of Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh, Rovman Powell and Rilee Rossouw failed to get going. The Capitals have a very explosive batting unit which can take down any bowling unit on their day. They will be eager to bounce back in this game.

Their bowlers started off well but leaked out a lot of runs towards the end. They also need to improve their fielding. Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi will be available for this game which is a huge boost for them. Axar Patel, Khaleel Ahmed and Chetan Sakariya need to be disciplined with the ball.

Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans were excellent with the bat in the opening game, especially Shubman Gill who scored 63 runs and kept his side in the hunt throughout the innings. Wriddhiman Saha was aggressive in the power play while Sai Sudarshan also looked in good touch. They’ll expect the likes of Hardik Pandya to do well in this game. Kane Williamson’s injury is a big blow to them but David Miller’s return will add to their batting strength.

The bowlers were decent against CSK. Alazari Joseph, Mohammad Shami and Rashid Khan bowled well. Joshua Little was a bit expensive. They have a good pace unit and Rashid Khan is their lead spinner. The Titans will look to continue the winning momentum in this game.

Pitch Venue Report

The pitch at Delhi will be a belter for batting. The pitch is flat and the ground dimensions are on the smaller side as well. Dew is expected in the latter half which means only one thing – lots of fours and sixes. The average first innings score here is 177 runs. Chasing sides have won 52% of the games played here.

Probable Playing XI

Delhi Capitals: David Warner (c), Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh, Sarfaraz Khan (wk), Rovman Powell, Axar Patel, Aman Khan, Kuldeep Yadav, Chetan Sakariya, Khaleel Ahmed, Anrich Nortje

Gujarat Titans: Shubman Gill, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Sai Sudarshan, Hardik Pandya (c), David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Alzarri Joseph, Mohammad Shami, Joshua Little, Yash Dayal

Players to Watch Out For

David Warner

David Warner is the best batter from Delhi. He’s amongst the best openers in world cricket and can win games on his own when on the song. Warner scored 56 runs in the first game but he wasn’t at his fluent best. He’ll look to improve in this game.

Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill scored 64 runs in the first game against CSK. He looked in sublime touch. He’s in excellent form in recent times and is one of the best batters in the tournament. Gill takes a bit of time initially but once he’s set, he can take the game away from the opposition. He doesn’t really struggle against the spinners either and will be a key batter for Gujarat.

Rashid Khan

The spin maestro, Rashid Khan was the best bowler for Gujarat in the first game. He picked up 2 wickets and stopped the flow of runs when everyone else was going for runs. He scored crucial 10* runs with the bat as well. He’ll be a crucial player for Gujarat in this game.

Hardik Pandya

Gujarat skipper Hardik Pandya didn’t really contribute in the first game but he’s one of the best players in his team. He’ll bowl 4 overs and will bat in the middle order. He is a match-winner with both bat and ball. Pandya is capable of winning games on his own and he’ll look to join the party in this match against Delhi.

Key Matchups

David Warner vs Mohammed Shami: Runs – 99, Balls – 68, Dismissals – 2

David Warner vs Hardik Pandya: Runs – 20, Balls – 13, Dismissals – 0

Hardik Pandya vs Axar Patel: Runs – 18, Balls – 17, Dismissals – 1

CSK vs LSG: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 6 of IPL 2023

Lucknow Super Giants will take on Chennai Super Kings in Match 4 of IPL 2023. Lucknow defeated Capitals in their first match and CSK suffered a loss against GT.

The only match played between these two teams was a high-scoring encounter, won by LSG in the final over.

Date and Time: 03 April, Monday, 7:30 PM IST

Streaming Platforms: Star Sports Network and JioCinema

Team Preview

Chennai Super Kings

CSK didn’t get the start they would have aspired for. But now they will be playing at their home ground which will excite both players and their fans.

Ruturaj missed his century but his performance must be the biggest positive from the season opener. Hangargekar played his first match and got three wickets. Dhoni also hit a couple of shots and Jadeja’s economical bowling was another takeaway.

Most of the batsmen in CSK’s batting line-up are of the top order and they lack a bit of firepower in their lower order. They have Jadeja and Dhoni as finishers but they need some balls to settle. Their death bowling is also not that great so they can try Dwayne Pretorius but this might need benching one of their overseas players which is in itself a tough task.

Lucknow Super Giants

Contrary to CSK, Lucknow started their season with a one-sided victory against the Capitals. They are high on confidence and would look to beat Super Kings at their home ground.

Opener QDK was not available in the first match, but Kyle Mayers smashed a fast 73 and it would be hard for management to drop him when QDK is available. Pooran and Badoni played a good cameo with Mark Wood leading the bowling department.

Pitch Report/Venue Report

The match would be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

  • Total Matches Played-121
  • Matches Won Batting First-64
  • Matches Won Batting Second-55
  • Tie-2
  • Average First Innings Score-157

The pitch at Chepauk has proved to be a paradise for spinners. Batting first here must be ideal because the pitch here is dry and hard which slows down as the game moves on. So batsmen need to work hard to score runs, which is even more challenging for the team chasing.

CSK won 40 of their 57 IPL matches played at Chepauk (win percentage>70), so a win for LSG on this ground wouldn’t be easy.

Probable Playing XI

Chennai Super Kings: Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, Ben Stokes, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (C) (WK), Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, Rajvardhan Hangargekar

Impact Player: Dwayne Pretorius/Prashant Solanki

Lucknow Super Giants: KL Rahul (c), Kyle Mayers, Deepak Hooda, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Marcus Stoinis, Krunal Pandya, Ayush Badoni, Ravi Bishnoi, Jaydev Unadkat, Mark Wood, Avesh Khan

Impact Player: Krishnappa Gowtham/Amit Mishra

Players to Watch Out For

Ruturaj Gaikwad

Gaikwad would be playing his first match at Chepauk but his game against spin can attain his success on this ground too. If he can replicate his form from the first match, it would be too hard for LSG to have their second consecutive victory.

Ambati Rayudu

Rayudu can be a great threat for LSG if he is promoted up the order at no. 3/4. He has great stats against Unadkat and Avesh and even struck Stoinis at an SR of 200. Krunal Pandya is his only threat who has dismissed him twice in 31 balls. He also has a chance to boast his record at Chepauk (near 100 SR).

KL Rahul

KLR didn’t score well in the first game and is not even in his top form in recent times. But he is one of the most consistent IPL batsmen and we expect him to go big against the Super Kings.

He has scored 435 runs averaging 43.5 with an SR of 140+ against CSK. Even at Chepauk, he averages more than 40 but his Strike Rate is just 110. KL Rahul against Deepak Chahar is a beast with 0 dismissals in 75 balls and has smashed 120 runs.

Nicholas Pooran

Pooran didn’t perform according to his standards till the last season of IPL but played a good knock in the first game. He has scored at 200+ SR against Jadeja and Moeen so will be a major factor for LSG in counter-attacking spinners.

Krunal Pandya

Chepauk supports spinners and Krunal can make good use of the pitch. At this ground, Krunal has conceded runs at an economy of just 6.26 in 7 matches. Krunal has dismissed both Rayudu and Jadeja twice and MSD finds it very tough to score against him (17 runs in 24 balls).

Key Matchups

KL Rahul vs Deepak Chahar: Runs-120, Balls-75, Dismissals-0

Deepak Hooda vs Deepak Chahar: Runs-7, Balls-12, Dismissals-2

MS Dhoni vs Jaydev Unadkat: Runs-105, Balls-43, Dismissals-1

MS Dhoni vs Avesh Khan: Runs-34, Balls-22, Dismissals-2

Ambati Rayudu vs Jaydev Unadkat: Runs-54, Balls-35, Dismissals-1

Ambati Rayudu vs Avesh Khan: Runs-61, Balls-35, Dismissals-0

Ambati Rayudu vs Krunal Pandya: Runs-37, Balls-31, Dismissals-2

Ravindra Jadeja vs Krunal Pandya: Runs-15, Balls-15, Dismissals-2

  • KL Rahul will score 50+ runs

RCB vs MI: Match Preview, Key Matchups and Dream11 Team for Match 5 of IPL 2023

Mumbai Indians will face off against RCB in Bengaluru as both sides look to start their campaign with a win. The teams have switched roles for what they have historically been known for with Mumbai banking on their star-studded batting with a fragile bowling attack led by Archer who is coming back from a long layoff while RCB continues to use the same template that they used last season but have upgraded their squad with handy backups in Bracewell and Topley who offer some versatility and help cover for players who will be missing the initial games of the season for RCB.

Team Preview

Mumbai Indians

With the addition of Cam Green, this batting lineup is filled with players who can take the game away from the opposition at any time. Filled with batsmen of such high calibre, MI are always 1-2 good innings away from stealing the game from the opposition. They will have slight problems with how their Indian batsmen lineup with Rohit not able to convert his starts and Kishan not able to score big after his 200 against Bangladesh. Surya has had a horrid run playing against Australia outside his preferred format while Tilak’s batting position will be key to decide his impact on the game.

Their bowling lineup will be led by Jofra Archer who will have high hopes as he will look to take over what Bumrah has been doing for the last few years, an all-phase bowler who is brought in to take wickets. Behrendorff will be their opening bowler with the southpaw looking to get early wickets. The rest of their lineup is filled with Indians who are yet to perform in the IPL and will have lots of pressure on them. Kartikeya will offer the captain multiple types of LSA in the same over while Arshad Khan looks like a promising talent who has a lot of control over his bowling but performing at this stage where there is no room for error will be an uphill battle.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

With Kohli back to scoring runs and Faf having had success with spin in the CPL, the team has gotten stronger from last year. With a strong opening pair, RCB has all bases covered with Rajat showing us his class from last year and helping complement Maxi at number 4 who operates best when he is given full freedom to use his range against spinners. Shahbaz has performed well against pace and is a perfect backup to DK who will once again get a chance to walk in the death overs as he looks to take the pace bowling of the opposition apart.

The bowling remains the same with Topley set to start ahead of Hazlewood. In theory, this bowling lineup has the potential to be the best in the league but everything hasn’t fallen in place with some of the bowlers having a horrible run in the previous season. Siraj will look to forget about the last IPL and continue his good form for the men in blue giving RCB 2 overs up front with the ball swinging and 2 overs at the death where he looks to choke the batsmen with his yorkers and tight lines. Harshal Patel post the world cup hasn’t had a chance to prove himself and would look to reinvent and take the opportunity to boss the final 10 overs which many bowlers haven’t been able to do. Topley with his height, left arm angle and slinky action offers some variety to the trio. RCB have used Maxi very well in the powerplay and Shahbaz based on the ground dimensions with Bracewell/ Karn Sharma set to replace Hasaranga leaving a huge hole in their bowling lineup.

Probable Playing XI

PBKS vs KKR: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream11 Team for Match 2 of IPL 2023

It’s Match 2 of IPL where Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders are set to battle against each other in their opening encounter. A cold rivalry had emerged between these two due to their clash in finals back then in IPL 2014 where the favourites PBKS lost the final to KKR who made a miraculous comeback that season.

Overall also KKR seems to dominate this rivalry as they have faced each other in 30 matches out of which 20 times KKR has emerged victorious.

Team Preview

Kolkata Knight Riders

They were already looking quite incomplete after the auction and later the unavailability of their captain Shreyas Iyer due to a back injury has been a major blow to them. His absence had not just weakened the team’s leadership but also the stability of their middle order. He scored 401 runs for them last season with an average of 30.85 and a strike rate of 134.6.

However, their bowling seems to be quite good. They have Narine and Varun in their spin department and Suyash Sharma also looks very promising youngster. And in the pace department, they have Shardul, Lockie, Umesh, and Southee. But here also death bowling seems to be a problem as all of these bowlers have been expensive at the death.

With all these points considered, KKR seems to be an unstable side overall and someone like skipper Nitish Rana or Venky Iyer would have to step up and deliver if they want to kick off their title run with a victory.

Punjab Kings

They were one of the teams who started their mini auction with a huge purse but were able to make only a few good buys like Sam Curran and Sikandar Raza. They were also blown by Jonny Bairstow’s unavailability as he still hasn’t completely recovered from his leg injury and Australian all-rounder Mathew Short has been named his replacement who also won the player of the tournament award in BBL 2022-23.

The inaugural match will be quite difficult for the kings as two of their other key players Kagiso Rabada and Liam Livingstone will also miss the match. In absence of these players, the role of Bhanuka Rajapaksha and Arshdeep Singh becomes more prominent and one of both of them will have to step up in this match to lead them to a victory over the Knights. Someone like Prabhsimran Singh could also come in as he had great form in the recent season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Pitch/Venue Report

The pitch at Mohali provides some early assistance to pace bowlers. But over it is a batting-friendly wicket and generally produces huge runs. It has hosted a total of 6 T20I and 55 IPL matches so far. Out of these 61 games, 35 have been won by chasing teams. So the teams chasing the target have an advantage here. Even a high target can be easily chased.

However, the overall lowest total defended in this ground is 150 by SRH in a match against the home team PBKS back then in 2014.

Probable Playing XI

Punjab Kings: Shikhar Dhawan (c), Prabhsimran Singh(wk), Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Jitesh Sharma, Sikander Raza, Shahrukh Khan, Sam Curran, Rishi Dhawan, Nathan Ellis, Rahul Chahar

Kolkata Knight Riders: Venkatesh Iyer, Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Nitish Rana (c), Mandeep Singh, Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Shardul Thakur, Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy

Players to Watch Out For

Andre Russell

This Caribbean all-rounder without any doubt, has been one of the most impactful players in the history of IPL. He is the old guardian of the Knights and is known for his explosive style of batting which has often led KKR to huge totals even after an early collapse.
Russell has also got a great record against Punjab Kings.

He has scored 331 runs against them at an average of 36.78 and a dangerous strike rate of 204. Russell has also taken 15 wickets against them at a bowling average of 20.13.

Umesh Yadav

The Vidarbha Express will also play a very important role in this upcoming match. As this pitch provides early assistance to pacers, it’ll be his responsibility to get those early wickets in the powerplay and build initial pressure.

He also loves performing against PBKS and has got a very astonishing record against them. The Indian Pacer has also won 6 MoM awards against PBKS which is the most by any player against a single team in IPL history.

Shikhar Dhawan

Dhawan has been one of the most consistent batters in the IPL and has continuously scored 450+ runs every season since 2016. The responsibility of giving a solid start to the Kings will rely on his shoulders.

His anchoring role would be really crucial in the absence of any other experienced batter. If he can anchor the innings from one end it would give freedom to other explosive batters like Rajapaksha, Shahrukh and Jitesh to play their natural game.

Arshdeep Singh

This young gun will be leading the PBKS pace attack in the absence of Kagiso Rabada. His role will be really crucial as they don’t have any other experienced pacer on their side.

He has also performed very well in the last couple of seasons. He can bowl quality swing in the powerplay taking some early wickets and also bowls economically in the crucial death overs.

Key Matchups

Nitish Rana vs Nathan Ellis: Runs-25 Balls-19 Out-2

Andre Russell vs Nathan Ellis: Runs-5 Balls-8 Out-1

Shikhar Dhawan vs Tim Southee: Runs-42 Balls-45 Out-3

Shikhar Dhawan vs Varun Chakravarthy: Runs-30 Balls-31 Out-2
