AUS vs PAK: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 18 of World Cup 2023

Australia lost the 1996 Final to Sri Lanka and since then has been on a 27-match streak (1999-2011) without a loss in World Cup matches (longest ever) but Pakistan was the team to break this legendary streak and defeated them in the last group stage game of 2011 Cricket World Cup.

Australia eliminated Pakistan in the quarter-final of World Cup 2015 and went on to become the champions. In the 2019 World Cup too, Australia emerged as winners of this contest.

Both the teams have already lost to hosts India in their previous matches. Pakistan won the other 2 and is placed at 4 in the points table while Australia won just 1 of their total 3 matches and is in the bottom 3 at the moment.

Team Preview

Australia

Batting has been a problem for Australia till now. They were unable to reach the 200 runs mark in their first 2 matches and thus lost both of them. Labuschagne is the only batsman who is among runs and has scored 2 40+ scores and got a start against India too.

Bowling has been comparatively better for Australia and has performed well in 2 matches. Defending 191 against India, Australian pacers were able to take 3 wickets for just 2 runs but couldn’t carry the momentum and lost the match by 6 wickets. Maxwell was the only bowler to bowl well against South Africa and Zampa was the hero of Australia’s first win of the tournament.

Pakistan

Pakistan defeated the Netherlands by 81 runs and chased 345 against Sri Lanka (the highest ever in World Cup history). They were doing well in the first 2 matches but were defeated by arch-rivals India in a one-sided affair. The main reason for this was their batting collapse after the wicket of captain Babar Azam. Pakistan were going good at 155/2 but lost their last 8 wickets for just 36 runs.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma never gave them a chance for a comeback and attacked Pakistan from ball 1. Shaheen resisted him scoring his second consecutive World Cup century against Pakistan but it was too late then. India defeated Pakistan by 7 wickets with around 20 overs left.

Pakistan needs to get at least 3 wickets in powerplay if they want to solidify their chances as the Australian long batting order can score well at the batting-supporting surface of Bengaluru. Shaheen Shah needs to come in his top form to support the in-form Hasan Ali.

Pitch Report

The match will be played at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru

  • Total Matches Played- 23
  • Matches Won Batting First- 10
  • Matches Won Batting Second- 12
  • Average First Innings Score- 266

The pitch at Bengaluru is known to produce one of the best batting tracks in India. The pitch has a good pace and bounce which assist the batsman to play shots. The outfield is fast and shorter boundaries are like cherry on top.

But as the match progresses, spinners who can turn the ball and have variations can also play a role in the game. It will be the first match of World Cup 2023 in Bengaluru so it will be exciting to see how curators have prepared the pitch for the big event.

The only tied match played here was the high-scoring encounter of India vs England in World Cup 2011. A total of 676 runs were scored in that match.

Probable Playing XI

Australia: David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Steven Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Inglis (wk), Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Pat Cummins (c), Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazelwood

Pakistan: Abdullah Shafique, Imam Ul Haq, Babar Azam (c), Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Saud Shakeel, Ifthikar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf

Players to Watch Out For

Glenn Maxwell

Australia entered the World Cup with just one spinner in the form of Adam Zampa but Glenn Maxwell never bowled like a part-timer in the tournament. With bowlers above 15 overs, he has the third-best economy (after Bumrah and Jadeja) in the tournament and also has 3 wickets in 3 matches. Maxi got the wicket of both openers in the match against South Africa but the lack of support from the other end was the reason for Australia’s loss.

In the current Australian squad, Maxwell has scored the highest runs against Pakistan (735) in 18 matches with 7 half-centuries. These runs came at a Strike Rate of 125.42. He has had 9 wickets against them with an economy of less than 6. So all-rounder Glenn Maxwell will be the most important player for Australia in their match against Pakistan.

Mitchell Starc

23 wickets in just 10 matches with a bowling average of just 18.04 and an economy of 4.56. This is the record of Mitchell Starc against the men in green. Starc will open the bowling for Pakistan and taking wickets in the first 10 overs would be important to prevent Pakistani batsmen from taking advantage of the pitch at Bengaluru.

In this World Cup, Starc is the highest wicket-taker for Australia with 5 wickets. He is also a handy bat at number 8 and has scored 28 and 27 runs in the matches he got to bat. In the 2015 and 2019 World Cup games against Pakistan, Starc took 2 wickets in each match.

Mohammad Rizwan

Rizwan has scored one century and one 50+ score in two of the three matches. In the other game, he has scored 49 against India. He is the second-highest run-getter of the tournament and is just one run behind top scorer Devon Conway who has played 4 matches.

In the iconic chase against Sri Lanka, Rizwan was the hero for Pakistan. He scored 131 runs in 121 balls and stitched a 176-run partnership for the third wicket with Abdullah Shafique (113 of 103), which was the most important part of the match. Now, Rizwan along with Babar (who is also in form after a 50 against India) will look to perform so Pakistan can win their third match of the tournament.

Hasan Ali

Hasan Ali was not in the preliminary 15-member squad of Pakistan for World Cup 2023 but was selected after Naseem Shah was out with an injury. But Hasan Ali played from the first match and is the best bowler for Pakistan in the tournament. He has clinched 7 wickets with an average of 19.71 but has conceded runs at an economy of 6.00.

In the first match against the Netherlands, Hasan got the start Pakistan wanted by taking the wicket of opener Max ODowd and took a total of 2 wickets in the game. He gave 71 runs in his quota of 10 overs against Sri Lanka but sent 4 of their important batsmen back to the pavilion. Both century scorers got out on the bowling of Hasan Ali. Against India too, he got the wicket of dangerous Virat Kohli but it was of no help as India convincingly won the match.

IND vs BAN: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 17 of World Cup 2023

India vs Bangladesh is a rivalry that is well famous for producing Quality and Controversial matches in the last 5/6 Years be it the 2015 CWC no-ball controversy, the 2016 WT20 final ball drama or the Nidhas and Asia Cup final of 2018. India has emerged victorious in all encounters as Bangladesh has failed to win the battle of nerves. This time Bangladesh will look to break the jinx in ICC events and defeat India like they did in 2007 and derailed their campaign. India will look to carry the momentum as they are looking best side in the tournament so far.

Team Preview

India

India has been on a roll in this CWC as they have won their all 3 contests and are coming Victorious from a highly anticipated and hyped match against Pakistan at Ahmedabad. The team will look to tick all the boxes match by match as anything can happen in the CWC. The other night we saw how ENG got defeated from Afghanistan and Bangladesh is a very decent ODI side in all fareness. The question will be who will play in the Pune as Shardul is looking off-colour in the WC and bowled just 2 over vs Pakistan so they might be tempted to play Shami or even Ashwin. The extra attacking batter at 8 might give Shardul another chance.

Bangladesh

Bangladesh started the tournament with a Bang vs Afghanistan but has been bang average after that. Many gave Bangladesh an outside chance of being in the top 4 before the tournament. They would like to get their campaign on track and end the ICC tournament jinx vs Ind. After the 2019 CWC Bangladesh has defeated India 3 times in 4 encounters and this record might give them some confidence. Bangladeshi Top order has been a case of concern for them as the young guns likes of Liton, Naim, and Hasan have been averaging less than 30 since the Asia Cup and they have very little experience at the top, especially after the exclusion of Tamim Iqbal. The pace trio of Bangladesh is very good at the moment with 3 bowlers are bowling 135/140+ KMPH for them. Shoriful Islam will be a bright prospect for them.

Predicted Playing XI

Bangladesh: Tanzid Hasan, Litton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan (c), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Towhid Hridoy, Mahedi Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman

India: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami/Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj.

Pitch Report

The Pitch at Pune will be a good wicket for batting and will provide some movement at the start of the innings, especially under the lights. Pune is an open ground so the ball will travel more fast here and sideways movement will be a factor here. Due might not come here so batting 1st can be a good option here.

  • Total matches Played – 7
  • Matches won batting first – 4
  • Matches won bowling first -3
  • Average 1st Inns scores – 307
  • Average 2nd Inns scores – 281

Players To Watch Out For

Jasprit Bumrah: Bumrah the name itself is a terror for modern-day batters and he becomes more dangerous when he is in good rhythm. Bumrah currently is the leading wicket-taker of the tournament and is coming from a Man of the Match performance vs arch-rivals Pakistan. He will look to continue this glorious form and win more matches for the team.

Virat Kohli: The run machine will look to continue his good form further in this tournament as he has scored over 150 runs in the tournament at an average of 78. He will be keen to score his 3rd CWC century which India has been waiting from 2015. Pune is Kohli’s happy hunting Ground.

Shoriful Islam: Bangladesh’s tall and talented left-arm pacer is a bright prospect for the future and can be a big threat for India. He uses angles very well with a high release point and gets some swing at the top.

Shakib Al Hasan: When the Bangladesh Cricket team plays the first pick for the key players has to be Shakib Al Hasan. An all-time great who has got 300+ wickets and 7000+ runs is a must in any modern-day odi side. He especially with his bowling can be Lethal for Bangladesh as his armour troubled India in Bangladesh during the 2022 tour.

NZ vs AFG: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 16 of World Cup 2023

Less than 65 hours after a historic and by far their greatest cricket win, the Afghans will take on the Kiwis in Chennai in the 16th match of the Cricket World Cup 2023.

One-third of group stage matches have been played and now each and every game will be very crucial in deciding the top 4 teams for the Semifinal.

New Zealand

New Zealand have so far won all 3 of their games including their previous win against Bangladesh at the same venue but surely they can’t take the Afghans lightly as they possess a threatening spin trio of Nabi, Mujeeb and Rashid.

New Zealand too will rely heavily on their spin duo of Rachin & Santner and also Sodhi if he gets a chance. New Zealand’s middle order can be put to the test in this game which may provide the first real challenge of this tournament for Phillips & Chapman. Will Young can be brought back into the XI as a replacement for injured captain Kane Williamson. It will be interesting to see what decision will be taken at the toss by Tom Latham if he wins it.

Afghanistan

Coming off a huge win against England, Afghanistan will be high on confidence as well as expectations. They will have a really great chance of going ahead in this tournament if they pull it off against New Zealand as well. Gurbaz will again need to provide a solid start to his team and will hope for some assistance from Zadran who has been cold in this tournament so far after being the best Afghan batsman in ODI Super League. Senior players Rahmat Shah & Mohammad Nabi have been quiet with their bat as well, if Afghanistan wants to be consistent with their performance then these two have to perform with the bat.

Pitch & Ground Report

The Match will be played in Chennai which has been so far the most low-scoring venue in this World Cup with 1st innings scores of 245 and 199. Jadeja, Ashwin, Kuldeep, Santner and even part-timer Glenn Phillips got a wicket at this venue. Starc & Boult were able to pick wickets with the new ball as well. So the match is expected to be low-scoring which may increase the chances of Afghanistan to win and create another major upset.

Probable Playing XI

Afghanistan: Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi (c), Mohammad Nabi, Azmatullah Omarzai, Ikram Alikhil (wk), Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Naveen-ul-Haq, Fazalhaq Farooqi

New Zealand: Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Will Young, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham(c)(wk), Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry, Ish Sodhi, Trent Boult

Players To Watch Out For

Rahmanullah Gurbaz

The Main attention of this game will be Afghanistan’s spin bowling vs New Zealand’s middle order but fans should keep an eye on Rahmanullah Gurbaz and how he counters Boult & Henry’s opening spells.

Gurbaz was the key architect of Afghanistan’s win over defending champions as it was his explosive innings which gave them an upper hand early on in the game.

Gurbaz also got a good start against Bangladesh and India but couldn’t convert it into a big score. His importance to this Afghan side can be understood by the fact that out of his 8 50+ scores ( 5 100s and 3 50s ) in his ODI career, only 1 came in a losing cause which was against Pakistan in a game lost by 1 wicket on the 2nd last ball of the 50th over.

Devon Conway

In their previous contest against Bangladesh at the same pitch, New Zealand started slow but steadily while chasing 246. The 80-run partnership between Conway & Williamson provided a platform for Daryl Mitchell to finish the game but in this game, New Zealand will be without the services of Kane & Conway might have to do the job alone of holding the innings together.

One of the best cricketers across formats since his debut, Conway is currently the 2nd highest run scorer in this tournament and is a hot contender to finish at the top by the end of the tournament. Conway is arguably the best batsman of spin in the current Kiwi lineup which again makes him a player to watch out for in this contest.

Mitchell Santner

The current highest wicket-taker of this World Cup, left-arm spinner Santner can create a big difference against Afghanistan. Despite being an Asian side, Afghanistan has not been able to tackle spin in a correct way, against England they gave away 5 wickets to spinners in 24 overs while scoring only 94 runs even when 14 of those overs were bowled by part-timers Livingston and Root. They gave away 6 wickets to spinners against Bangladesh while scoring only 55 runs on a Dharamshala pitch which is comparatively more helpful for pacers than spinners. New Zealand won’t hesitate to bring back Ish Sodhi for this fixture and we may see Glenn Phillips bowling more overs than usual.

SA vs NED: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 15 of World Cup 2023

5 of the expected South Africa XI members have surnames of Dutch origin. 5 of the 15 members Netherlands squad were born in South Africa.

The above two statements give us a glimpse of the overlapping of cricketing history between the 2 nations who will face each other tomorrow at the HPCA stadium.

Their encounter last year in Australia saw one of the biggest upsets in T20I WC history and all of us(except the Protea fans) will be hoping that a similar event is seen on the 17th.

Team Overview

South Africa

With a net run rate of 2.360, South Africa has announced itself on the big stage, running over Sri Lanka and Australia in their opening two matches. Especially the performance against Australia was as perfect as it could get. Batting as expected fired in all cylinders with De Kock leading the way with his 2nd consecutive century of the series. Bowling which was the weaker department since the 2019 CWC, complimented their batting this time around, and fielding too improved by heaps in comparison to the Sri Lanka match.

Recent Form: WWWWW

A win tomorrow will bring South Africa to the top of the points table and Bavuma and Co. will look to make sure there isn’t any whatsoever resemblance to the 2022 matchup.

Netherlands

2 losses in 2 games, the fact which the Netherlands will be disappointed upon is the fact of them letting their opponents slip away at crucial moments.

Against Pakistan, it was 3rd wicket and 8th wicket partnerships which spoiled their brilliant bowling inside the first 10 overs, and in the next match, they gave away 50 runs in their last 3 overs primarily against Santner, allowing New Zealand to post an above par score.

Moreover, in both these matches, they weren’t able to make use of their batting depth, getting bowled out by the 41st and 47th over respectively.

Recent Form: LLLWW

The only associate nation of this World Cup, they will take inspiration from Afghanisthan’s victory and will try to replicate their heroics from the t2O WCs in the longer white-ball format.

Pitch Report

So far, the HPCA stadium has been one of the most and probably the only disappointing stadiums of this World Cup, the culprit being the outfield. Players ahead of the England-Bangladesh encounter were advised to not dive for fear of injuries. So there’s that dimension added to tomorrow’s match though we are to believe the outfield conditions have improved by now.

Apart from that both matches had pitches which were anything but two-paced, with the bowl travelling both towards and away from the bat, briskly(as expected). Seamers should extract more from the pitch than the spinners given the altitude of the stadium and the South African will fancy their chances against the Dutch lineup due to this reason.

Probable Playing XI

South Africa: Temba Bavuma, Quinton De Kock, Rassie Van Der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Gerald Coetzee, Lungi Ngidi

The only choice which South Africa has to make is whether to call back Coetzee for this match. He made his CWC debut against Sri Lanka but was replaced by Shamsi in the 2nd match but that had more to do with the stadium in question; Ekana.
With the stadium being situated at 1457 metres above sea level, South Africa might go with the ‘horses for courses’ theory tomorrow and most likely for the rest of the tournament too,

Netherlands: Vikramjit Singh, Max O’Dowd, Colin Ackermann, Bas de Leede, Teja Nidamanuru, Scott Edwards (capt & wk), Sybrand Engelbrecht, Roelof van der Merwe, Logan van Beek/Ryan Klein, Paul van Meekeren. Aryan Dutt

Logan Van Beek missed the previous encounter due to a hamstring injury and there’s no update available on his availability. If he’s fit, he will most likely come in for Klein(who tbh hasn’t done much wrong since his debut), or else the XI is likely to remain unchanged.
Wesley Barresi, the only squad member who has experience of the CWC except for the ongoing series, has been benched. He might be given a go in place of Engelbrecht.

Players to Watch Out For

Quinton De Kock: An average of 30.00 after 17 CWC innings, De Kock WAS the current poster boy of the “South Africa Chokers” tag. Along with this being his last ODI assignment(at the age of 30), the whole ordeal must have been blood-sucking for Quinton. However, he didn’t let it show in his game. Smashing back-to-back centuries at the start of his campaign and will be chasing the record set by another leftie wicketkeeper.

With nearly 6.5k runs at an average of 45.61 and a strike rate of 96.16, De Kock has yet to disturb the Dutch Bowlers, averaging 7.5 against the Netherlands across 4 international games.

In what has been a glorious international career, he certainly wouldn’t want to leave such a black mark for future trollers.

Kagiso Rabada: Averaging an ordinary 29.6 between the 2019 and 23’ CWCs, Kagiso seems to have found his rhythm back, doing well in the flat Delhi pitch, and taking it a notch up against the Australians, picking up 3 wickets for 33.
No more new-ball terror for the opponents, since Rabada now primarily bowls at the middle and the death, his blistering deliveries catapulted at the good-length region, will prove to be a massive challenge for the brittle Netherlands middle order, only amplified by the HPCA stadium.

Roelof Van Der Merwe: Out of his 18 one-day internationals, 13 of them have come while representing South Africa. In one of the most bizarre situations in CWC history, Roelof will be putting his entire efforts to thwart a team for which he once sang the national anthem ahead of a match.

Averaging under 20 across t20 leagues this year, Van Der Merwe removed both Rachin and Conway in his previous match. Usually not a big spinner of the bowl, Edwards should try him out explicably at the death, a role which he has essenced over his 300+ T20 wickets.

AUS vs SL: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 14 of World Cup 2023

Both the Island countries have started their WC campaign in a devastating way losing both of their opening encounters badly.

For Australia, their batting has been an issue. With so many all-rounders in the team, the batting lineup of Kangaroos has come out vulnerable on tricky Indian pitches, in the first encounter they were bowled out for a mere score of 199 and in the second a score of 177 while chasing 312 in Lucknow. Bowling hasn’t been up to the mark, but they have done well in patches. The fielding of Aussies has also been terrible, till now they have dropped 6 catches in just 2 matches all of them coming in their 2nd match.

Sri Lanka’s batting has been top-notch, Kusal Mendis till now has scored 198 runs with a whopping strike rate of 166.38. Sadeera Samarawickrama scored his first ODI century against Pakistan and alongside Kusal Mendis has been phenomenal for them. All Top 4 run-getters of the Sri Lanka team at least have an average of 40 and a strike rate of 100. Bowling of the Lankan Lions has matched levels with the batting stats, with Pathirana and Wellalage averaging 92.50 and 143 with the ball respectively.

Team Preview

Australia

With Travis Head getting injured Australia went with the opening pair of David Warner and Mitchell Marsh which hasn’t worked out for them. Mitchell Marsh came into this World Cup with sensational form behind his back, but till now he hasn’t done a penny of his potential scoring a 6-ball duck against India and a 15-ball 7 against South Africa. Jos Inglis who replaced Alex Carey for Australia’s encounter against the Proteas dropped a chance and failed to contribute with the bat.

Cummins’s bowling form is also an issue for the Aussies. The Baggy Cap captain now has been terrible with the ball, averaging 104 with an economy rate of 6.78.
Adam Zampa, Australia’s trump card has been taken to the cleaners by the batters, he till now has taken only 1 wicket with an average of 123 and an economy of 6.83.

Sri Lanka

For a bowling unit where your best bowler (economy-wise) is Dasun Shanaka is a very concerning sign. Sri Lanka’s bowling lineup till now has come out as numb, with Matheesha Pathirana being the worst not only bad in length but also in line conceding 14 wides in the first two matches.

Ignoring the excuse of flat decks, Sri Lanka still has looked clueless and options in bowling. They have scored 670 runs but conceded 773 runs. Kusal Perera’s form is also a concern for the Lankan Lions. He was drafted into the playing XI to give Sri Lanka an aggressive start but has failed to do so.

Probable Playing XI

Australia: David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Steven Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Alex Carey(wk), Gleen Maxwell, Sean Abbott, Pat Cummins (c), Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazelwood.

With Pat Cummins’s terrible bowling form and Stoinis and Green not looking in touch with bat or either ball, Australia can try the services of Sean Abbott who could outcome as a surprise for the opponents with the bat or ball.
Jos Inglis’s terrible outing with the bat and gloves could make way for Alex Carey.

Sri Lanka: Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis(c, wk), Pathum Nissanka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Dhananajaya De Silva, Dunith Wellalage, Maheesh Theekshana, Kasun Rajitha, Lahiru Kumara, Dilshan Madushanka.

Considering Kusal Perera’s poor outings and fewer bowling options available he could make way for any pacer. Dasun Shanaka and Pathirana have been ruled out of this game citing their injuries.

Pitch Report

In the recently concluded IPL, Lucknow’s pitch was the talk of the town, but after the renovation, it has changed completely.

The pitch has a really even coverage of grass that could perhaps offer a bit of pace and bounce to the quicks which was also seen with some balls getting unexpected bounce.
Lucknow’s pitch had something for everyone, even with the old ball bowlers weren’t completely out of the game. A healthy contest is expected between bat and ball.

Players To Watch Out For

Kusal Mendis

Kusal Mendis announced his arrival in the World Cups in the warmups and has continued the same. Lanka’s vice-captain has smashed 14 sixes in just 2 outings. He has scored 198 runs with a magnificent strike rate of 166.38. He suffered an injury while batting against Pakistan which kept him out for wicketkeeping, but he seems fine as of now and is ready to take on the gloves and the bat. His valiant efforts haven’t given Sri Lanka a win he would be looking to change this.

Maheesh Theekshana

Maheesh Theekshana is one of the current best spinners in the world cricket. He can bowl in the powerplay, in the middle overs and in the death also. He has 31 scalps to his name this year in ODIs and was a main man in Sri Lanka’s success at the World Cup Qualifiers and the Asia Cup. In his first World Cup outing he didn’t look threatening at all, but everyone knows his potential. Theekshana would be looking to get the rhythm and lead the inexperienced Sri Lankan bowling unit.

Marnus Labuschagne

Marnus Labuschagne came into the World Cup squad as a replacement but hasn’t done well enough to get his team the taste of victory. He showed his grit and resilience against South Africa scoring a 46 off 74 and when everybody was coming and going he stayed on the crease alongside Mitchell Starc batting out 92 balls and reducing the huge margin of defeat. In the upcoming encounters, he would be hoping to showcase his abilities and make Australia cross the line.

ENG vs AFG: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 13 of World Cup 2023

The battle between a bowling-dominant side and a batting-dominant side, it’s Afghanistan vs England at the Arun Jaitely Stadium.

Afghanistan have lost both of their opening two encounters badly. Both batting and bowling aren’t up to the mark, they are unable to find wickets at the right time and bat sensibly with a sign of aggression.

England after getting a shocker in the opening game of the tournament came back stronger and demolished Bangladesh by a huge margin of 137 runs, also boosting their net run rate.

Team Preview

Afghanistan

Afghanistan’s batting is too much reliant on the duo of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, both have failed to score runs, thus resulting in Afghanistan’s batting failure.

Afghanistan’s middle order still plays old-school approach cricket whereas many teams play aggressively throughout the innings. Differences in approaches have widened the gap between Afghanistan and other teams.

Afghanistan bowlers also aren’t up to the mark according to their potential. Although they didn’t have enough runs to defend in both matches, the bowlers were clueless most of the time.

England

England’s approach to attack has been copied by many teams. With the likes of Dawid Malan, Johnny Bairstow and Joe Root in the top order, England can demolish any bowling lineup on their given day. Their bowling was considered a bit weak but the way Topley demolished Bangladesh, it looks threatening as well. England came 3rd in 2 two-horse race in the first match but made a statement in the second encounter.

Probable Playing XI

Afghanistan: Rahmanullah Gurbaz(wk), Ibrahim Zadran, Riaz Hassan, Hashmatullah Shahidi(c), Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Azmatullah Omarzai, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Naveen Ul Haq, Fazalhaq Farooqi.

With the inconsistent performances of Rahmat Shah, Riaz Hassan could make the playing sheet above him.

England: Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler(c, wk), Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood, Reece Topley.

With uncertainty over Ben Stokes’s participation, Harry Brook is likely to play. Either of Liam Livingstone or Moeen Ali will get the second spinner spot in the playing XI.

Pitch Report

Delhi’s pitch has been a batting paradise till now with 1300 runs being scored in just 2 matches. Batters will enjoy the pitch, they just need to handle Delhi’s heat. Bowlers on the other hand will be the ones who will suffer. The pitch has nothing for the bowlers. Bowlers need to try some variations to anyhow stop the batters from scoring as many as runs possible. Bowlers need to be very disciplined with their line and length on these types of surfaces.

Players To Watch Out For

Dawid Malan

Dawid Malan has been England’s top run-getter in ODIs since the 2019 World Cup. He has scored 6 centuries in just 23 ODI innings being the quickest to do so. He has shown his class against Bangladesh by scoring a 140 from just 107 balls giving the momentum to other upcoming batters. In 2023, he has 4 centuries to his name. England would be hoping that Malan’s prime continues and helps them in reaching glory again.

Joe Root

Joe Root has always been England’s man of crisis, whether it be red ball or white ball. Joe Root wasn’t in form in the ODI series vs New Zealand just before the World Cup but has come to the World Cup with a bang, scoring 2 back-to-back fifties. He missed out on the century and would be hoping to score one in the upcoming fixtures. England’s batting is still heavenly depending on Joe Root’s performance.

Ibrahim Zadran

One of the two pillars of the Afghani batting lineup hasn’t come well into the World Cup but would be hoping to turn this down and show his impact on the big stage. Alongside Gurbaz, Afghanistan’s batting depends on the form of these two batters. Their failure means Afghanistan’s failure, so Ibrahim Zadran would be looking to bat sensibly with Gurbaz been the attacker.

NZ vs BAN: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 11 of World Cup 2023

So as we move towards the south of India for the contest between New Zealand and Bangladesh in Chepauk let’s recap what has been the progress for both the teams so far in the CWC.

Newzealand as always Started as the underdogs plus Kane Williamson missed the 1st 2 matches so NZ was counted off again by the experts but as usual, the Kiwis showed why they are so a consistent team in the tournament by beating Title Favourites England in a one-sided affair then followed it against the Netherlands. On the other hand, Bangladesh also won the 1st match one-sided vs Afghanistan but the opposite happened against England. They will look to bounce back in the Chepauk and especially with their spin department it will be a difficult challenge for New Zealand and we can’t call it an upset if Bangladesh wins this match because they have been very fine in one-day cricket in the last 7,8 years.

Team Preview

Bangladesh

Bangla Tigers are one of those cricketing teams that have been developed well over time, especially in the 50-overs format. They knocked out ENG in the 2015 WC plus made it to the semi-finals of the 2017 Champions Trophy followed by the Asia Cup final in 2018. They need to win those big moments they have come close to. Shakib and Miraz will be vital in this clash vs New Zealand + Shanto will be key as a batsman as he has been in Superb form since the Asia Cup.

New Zealand

The Blackcaps after getting written off by experts as title favourites this tournament as most of them were rooting for ENG/AUS and India have got their answers again till now in the CWC. New Zealand will look to fit in Williamson in the 3rd match as he is ready to go so it will be a choice between Chapman and Will Young. Santner will be key along with Boult in the powerplay.

Probable Playing XI

Newzealand: Devon Conway, Will Young, Kane Williamson, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham (c & wk), Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult

Bangladesh: Tanzid Hasan, Litton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan (c), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Towhid Hridoy, Mahedi Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman

Pitch Report

The Chepauk pitch will provide turn with good bounce so the likes of Shakib and Santner would be thinking about bowling it right now in the Chepauk. Cutters will be useful here with a bit of seam movement under lights for the first 5/6 overs. So we can expect another 220-250 contests here.

  • Total matches hosted: 24
  • Matches won batting first: 14
  • Matches won bowling first: 9
  • Average 1st innings score: 233
  • Average runs per over: 5.19

Players To Watch Out For

Shakib Al Hasan: The go-through man in the CWC will be key again for Bangladesh as he always has been for them over the years. He is the best all-rounder of the generation if we just look at those stats it’s humongous the way he has performed year after year.

Trent Boult: Trent Boult with his swing can kill the game at the top as we have seen throughout his career and the Bangladeshi batters aren’t that good against the seam/swing movement. He will be key for NZ throughout the tournament along with his new ball partner Henry.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz: The young all-rounder hasn’t got recognition for his recent performances that he has given. Well, you know that he has got 150+ test wickets so it’s a big stat in itself, especially for someone coming from Bangladesh. He bowls with his field and changes angles. Prefer bowling round the wicket also vs right-handers.

Devon Conway: Conway is the best NZ player of spin currently especially looking at the form he has been in. He has churned out runs everywhere and in the IPL he played for CSK and played around 9 matches in the Chepauk so it’s a very familiar ground for him. We can expect runs from him again.

IND vs AFG: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 9 of World Cup 2023

As we are currently in the 2nd round matches of all the teams we will look into the Asian clash consisting of India and Afghanistan. India started their Tournament in Chepauk with a Convincing Win against Title contenders Australia meanwhile on the other hand Afghanistan got a proper hammering from Bangladesh in Dharamshala. India will like to continue their winning momentum and Afghanistan will look to open their account on the points table. If we go just go by pedigree India should win this contest but we know it’s not over until it’s over. Upsets can be done any day as Afghanistan has a wizard named Rashid Khan who will look to make his name in CWC as he has been average in it.

Team Preview

India

The hosts after defeating the 5-time champs will Look to keep their heads cool and move into the next contest and will have to find a proper balance for this match as it will be played in the Kotla where South Africa broke the world record and made mammoth of 428 runs and even Sri Lanka made 326 in 44 overs only and in total 754 runs were made so India will look to draft in shardul in place of Ashwin. India will look to counter the new ball which troubled them in the last game when they got down to 2-3. Captain Rohit has to lead from the front

A Setback – Shubman Gill is ruled out of the match against Afghanistan because of dengue so his shoes will be very difficult to fill

Afghanistan

The team has not won any CWC game in their last 10 attempts and they will look to better this record. The last time they played India in a WC game it was down to the wire with Bumrah and Shami Saving India at the last. Afghanistan will look to get breakthroughs with their spinners but the Pacers have to play more roles than usual because they can’t just rely on their spin department. Gurbaz will be a key.

Probable Playing XI

India: Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj

Afghanistan: Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi (c), Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Azmatullah Omarzai, Rashid Khan, Naveen-ul-Haq, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Mujeeb Ur Rahman

Pitch Report

Delhi will be a good pitch to bat on as it is under the control of ICC and since the IPL 2021, it has been quite high-scoring. The traditional Kotla pitch has a low bounce with a slow turn. But the wicket looks completely different now.

  • Total matches played – 29
  • Matches that won batting first – 14
  • Matches won bowling first – 14
  • Average 1st Inns scores – 230
  • Average 2nd Inns scores – 207

Players To Watch Out For

Virat Kohli: “The man for the big occasions”, defines Virat Kohli as a cricketer. He will look to have a great game again that too on his home ground. Kohli will have to be watchful vs Rashid and if he does that we might see King nearing the 50th ODI ton.

Shreyas Iyer: Iyer is a very underrated cricketer among the current Indian lot and the best player of spin currently. He will look to accumulate runs and get back into form as he couldn’t open his account on Sunday

Rashid Khan: The X factor of Afghanistan will look to make his name once again by performing against the foreign team which loves him the most. Rashid Khan in India Particularly in the IPL has been the best bowler in the last 6,7 years and he will look to continue his impressive performance on Indian soil in white-ball cricket. However, he has to work on his ODI record against top teams.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz: The ace Afghani opener will look to continue his form as he made 150 against Pakistan in the SL tour and made 2 50s in the warm-ups with a 50+ score vs Bangladesh in the first match. Gurbaz is also the wk of the team which opens the batting for them and is very pleasing to the eyes.

ENG vs BAN: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 7 of World Cup 2023

After the completion of their first round of World Cup 2023 matches, 10 October will feature two matches in which 4 teams will be playing their second match.

  • England vs Bangladesh (10:30 AM IST)
  • Pakistan vs Sri Lanka (2:00 PM IST)

We would cover the first match of the day in detail and a Dream 11 team would be provided at the end.

Bangladesh vs England in the ODI World Cup is a lesser-talked-about rivalry. They both have met each other 4 times in WC and both the teams have registered 2 wins. England defeated South Africa and West Indies and tied the game against India but were defeated by Bangladesh (and Ireland) in the group stages of the 2011 World Cup played in India.

CWC 2015 was a nightmare for England where Bangladesh defeated them once again and was able to qualify for the knockouts refraining England from doing so. Although England beat Bangladesh by 100+ runs margins in the 2019 World Cup being played at their home. Can England repeat the same or Bangladesh will do upset for the third time against the Englishmen?

Note: England defeated Bangladesh by 4 wickets in the practice game played just a week ago.

Team Preview

England

The tournament opener saw the assault of the defending champions by the runners-up New Zealand. On the batting paradise of Ahmedabad, they failed to cross the 300 runs mark and New Zealand chased down the target comfortably in 36.2 overs.

Joe Root was the only batsman to show some resilience on the pitch along with a 43 runs score by captain Buttler. Each English batsman scored runs in double figures (first instance in a WC match), but no one was able to convert it to a century resulting in England falling 18 runs short of the 300-run mark.

In the bowling department, none of the bowlers conceded runs below run-a-ball. Moeen and Adil were the most economical and conceded runs at 6.4 and 6.7 respectively. (Santner took 37/2 in 10 overs in the same match but Ravindra was expensive too). We talked about English spinners being expensive in our England’s Squad Analysis article and they have to improve their performance for the betterment of England in the tournament.

Their pacers were no better in the first game and even outscored spinners in terms of economy. Curran got the only wicket but gave 47 runs in his 6 overs. England can even think of rotating their pacers as the Dharamsala pitch supports pacers and chances of having a low-score affair are high there.

Bangladesh

Bangladesh got the start they would have aspired for. They bundled Afghanistan for less than 160 and won the match comfortably under 35 overs after losing 2 early wickets. They will be playing their second consecutive match in Dharamsala which might prove an advantage for them.

Captain Shakib got the first blood for Bangladesh followed by his second wicket. Miraj joined the tally by taking 3rd wicket and Mustafizur sent settled batsman Gurbaz back to the pavilion. Taskin got dangerous Nabi out while Miraz and Shoriful took the last 4 wickets. Overall, it was a complete team performance in the bowling department.

Bangla Tigers lost their openers cheaply during the chase but the ever-dependent Miraz and Shanto stitched a 97-run partnership for the third wicket which was sufficient to help Bangladesh gain 2 points. They would hope to continue the momentum and register 2 more points in the points table.

Pitch Report

The match will be played at HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala

  • Total Matches Played- 5
  • Matches Won Batting First- 1
  • Matches Won Batting Second- 4
  • Average First Innings Score- 203

Out of the 5 games played here, the team batting first has scored less than 200 runs on three instances. Citing the previous record, the team that will win the toss might like to chase the total.

The pitch at HPCA stadium is not expected to produce a high-scoring encounter. It is a pitch supporting Fast Bowlers who can extract bounce from the pitch. But Bangladeshi spinners bowled well in Match 3 on the same ground but all the 3 wickets were taken by Fast Bowlers of Afghanistan in the second innings despite them having a very attacking spin bowling trio.

Probable Playing XI

England: Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Ben Stokes/Harry Brook, Jos Buttler (C) (WK), Moeen Ali, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood

Bangladesh: Tanzid Hasan, Litton Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan (C), Mushfiqur Rahim (WK), Towhid Hridoy, Mahmudullah, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman

Players to Watch Out For

Mehidy Hasan Miraz

The boy from Khulna has been the main force to reckon with for the opponents in recent times. He can take wickets with spin bowling, is batting in the top order in some previous encounters, and has also finished some important games while batting at the lower middle order in the past.

In the first practice game, he conceded just 32 runs in his quota of 10 overs and also took 1 wicket. Also scored 67 runs with the bat and thus helped Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka in their first warm-up game. Against England, he was the only batsman to score a fifty and also won the Man Of The Match for his all-round performance in Bangladesh’s first match against Afghanistan.

Dawid Malan

With some serious strikers in the England line-up, the role of Joe Root along with Dawid Malan will be crucial in Match 7 at Dharamsala. He has performed his role of an anchor well in the past and would like to carry the same in the upcoming matches. Malan’s Strike Rate of 95.32 with a healthy average of 58.89 depicts what pedigree of a player he is.

Taskin Ahmed

Taskin has been the best pacer for Bangladesh in recent times. His ability to generate bounce off the pitch would be very beneficial on the pitch of Dharamsala. Ahmed got to bowl just 6 overs in the first match, conceded 32 runs, and took the important wicket of Mohammad Nabi.

Taskin is the highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh in ODIs this year. He has clinched 22 wickets in the 12 games he played at an average of just 17.55 and an economy of just 4.36. England possesses one of the best top orders of the tournament and Taskin’s performance in powerplay can prove to be a deciding factor for Bangladesh.

PAK vs SL: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 8 of World Cup 2023

Both teams started their WC campaign in different ways. Pakistan got the above hand over the Netherlands in their opening game with their bowling efforts defending 286. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, was demolished by the Proteas. Their bowlers conceded 428 runs in their 50-over quota, but batting made sure that Sri Lanka didn’t give up this chase, scoring 326.

Pakistan has a 7-0 superiority over Sri Lanka in world cups, but their recent white-ball records against Sri Lanka are terrible. Both Pakistan and Sri Lanka would be looking to turn these matchups on their side of the coin.

Team Preview

Pakistan

Pakistan’s top order is an issue for them. They play with an old-school approach in the powerplay, which can backfire Pakistan anytime soon as the other team attacks from the start. Fakhar Zaman’s form is a major issue for them, they would like to bring in Abdullah Shafique in place of Fakhar.

Pakistan’s spin bowling doesn’t look threatening. Both Nawaz and Shadab aren’t in great form. They have played 3 matches on this Hyderabad Pitch but didn’t show the spark in them. Usama Mir can be tried in place of Nawaz as he looked lethal in the warmup matches.

Recent Form: WLLWNR

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s bowling was destroyed by the proteas in their opening match, with every bowler conceding above 8/over (except Shanaka).

Sri Lanka missed the services of their premium bowler Maheesh Theekshana in the opening encounter. Sri Lanka would be hoping to get his services for the Pakistan game. None of the Sri Lankan fast bowlers looked lethal, they would like to bring in Lahiru Kumara to strengthen their pace battery.

Sri Lanka played with an aggressive intent against South Africa, but only 3 batters looked in good touch. Opener Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera would be looking to make a mark in the upcoming game.

Recent Form: LLWLW

Probable Playing XI

Pakistan: Fakhar Zaman, Imam Ul Haq, Babar Azam(c), Mohammad Rizwan(wk), Saud Shakeel, Ifthikar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf.

Sri Lanka: Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis(wk), Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya De Silva, Dasun Shanaka(c), Dunith Wellalage, Maheesh Theekshana, Lahiru Kumara, Dilshan Madushanka.

Pitch Report

Hyderabad pitch has been batting-friendly in 2 warmups and 1 World Cup match played here. Boundaries are short so batters would be looking to utilise the conditions to the fullest. An aggressive brand of cricket is a must on these kinds of surfaces.

Pitch tends to slow down as the game progresses and will assist the spinners more than fast bowlers. For the most part of the game, it would be a batter’s paradise.

  • Total Matches – 8
  • Won batting first – 5
  • Won batting second – 3
  • Average 1st innings score – 287
  • Average 2nd innings score – 255

Players To Watch Out For

Dasun Shanaka

Dasun Shanaka’s and his India Affair is no longer unknown. In his first World Cup match, Shanaka scored 68 off 62 helping Sri Lanka reduce the margin of defeat and controlling the damage of NRR’s fall. He averages 63 in India and 13 in all other countries he played in.
He was the most economical bowler of the Sri Lankan lineup, conceding only 36 in 6 overs with an economy of 6, while all other bowlers’ economy was more than 8. Sri Lanka would want their captain to continue this flow throughout the World Cup.

Saud Shakeel

Saud Shakeel was declared the player of the match in Pakistan’s victory over the Netherlands. He came in a collapse situation but played his shots and removed the pressure from his partner Rizwan. The partnership between Rizwan and Shakeel paved the way for a respectable total for Pakistan. Shakeel’s wide range of shots makes him special.

Kusal Mendis

Kusal Mendis showed his aggressive intent in warmups, which he continued in his first outing in the World Cup, scoring 76 off just 42 balls with 8 sixes. He smashed bowlers like Rabada and Ngidi all around the park. Hyderabad’s pitch will most likely be batting-friendly, so Sri Lanka’s vice-captain would be looking to score a daddy hundred and kill the game at that instance.
