NZ vs SL: Match Preview, Pitch Report and Dream 11 Team for Match 41 of World Cup 2023

Qualification for both Sri Lanka and New Zealand means different now. Sri Lanka needs to ensure a win to finish in the top 8 to qualify for the Champions Trophy 2025. New Zealand on the other hand, need a win to keep their Semi final hopes alive. If any of the team loses, they would need to get a calculator to try and guess all scenarios that they would need to go in their favour.

Sri Lanka has been on and off in this tournament, the bunch of young talents have shown potential but not the result Sri Lanka wanted. They have lacked in many departments and made some basic errors.

New Zealand has lost 4 consecutive matches after winning 4 consecutive matches and has found themselves in a do-or-die situation. They need to win this match otherwise they have to depend on other results.

Team Preview

Sri Lanka

With Champions trophy qualification on the line, Sri Lanka needs to win this match badly. Maheesh Theekshana having more runs than Angelo Mathews and Angelo Mathews having more wickets than Maheesh Theekshana shows the pitiful condition of the Lankans. Apart from Dilshan Madushanka, every bowler has been below average in this World Cup. Charith Asalanka has been poor outside Delhi, Kusal Mendis has been poor in his captaincy, and Dhananjaya De Silva and Kusal Perera have been poor everywhere.

New Zealand

Captain Kane returned in style for the Blackcaps, but couldn’t win for his team. New Zealand bowling has been a major issue for their downfall in this tournament. Tim Southee returning from injury is still searching his rhythm. Trent Boult isn’t showing that much spark. The combined efforts of Santner, Rachin, and Philips in the spin department aren’t very threatening. Captain Kane needs to get rid out of this, otherwise, New Zealand will be out of the World Cup.

Probable Playing XI

Sri Lanka: Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis(c) (wk), Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Angelo Mathews, Dhananjaya De Silva, Dushmantha Chameera, Maheesh Theekshana, Kasun Rajitha, Dilshan Madushanka.

New Zealand: Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Kane Williamson(c), Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham(wk), Gleen Philips, Mark Chapman, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson.

Pitch Report

Bengaluru pitch is not a surprise for anyone anymore. It would be a batting paradise, with bowlers getting belted all around the park. Short Boundaries and flat are things batters pray for, but it’s been raining in Bengaluru for quite a while, so it would be interesting to see how the pitch behaves, whether it’s going to be the same or different.

Players To Watch Out For

Pathum Nissanka

Pathum Nissanka, despite scoring 2 ducks in this tournament has 4 half-centuries and 2 40’s but has failed to convert them into a big score, if Sri Lanka badly wants from him. With 2 of the top 3 batters not in form, Nissanka has to stay on the crease for a long period, so that Sri Lanka doesn’t see a collapse coming their way. A century from Pathum Nissanka is due in this World Cup and he would be looking to complete it in the last match of his World Cup campaign.

Dilshan Madushanka

Before the World Cup began, no one was talking about Dilshan Madushanka in the left-arm pacers column. There was hype for Boult and Starc, but Dilshan Madushanka has been the best in this bracket. Madushanka has been the lone warrior of the Lankan bowling lineup, he has taken 21 wickets, the highest in the tournament. Madushanka has done very well, but his team keeps on losing, In the last match he would like to give Sri Lanka a win and a spot in CT 2025.

Glenn Philips

A true all-rounder in all departments. He can slog, he can ball, he can keep, he can field. Glenn Philips has been New Zealand’s man of crisis. He has been providing explosive cameos down the order and does his bowling part without being very expensive. New Zealand’s inability to take wickets in the middle order has been solved to some extent by Glenn Philips.
